INTERACTION

Here's an interesting article on Yahoo! THAT YOU CAN READ HERE that looks at young people interacting more and more with machines and less and less with other humans.

I've mentioned, before, how unfriendly the younger people seem to be, not even answering you if you say "good morning".  It's not that they don't want to communicate, it's that they don't know how to communicate with their own kind.

I saw a news item, the other day, about local schools now giving each kid a computer tablet and they're "learning" by staring at a computer screen rather than interacting with the teacher and classmates.  The idea is, apparently, they learn more...faster.

I don't think so.  This is a very dangerous path we're taking.  We need to start talking to each other again.  FACE TO FACE.  "Texting" is not going to solve the gargantuan problems this world faces.  It's not opening us up to the world, it's isolating us from it.

Hear hear! Every man's an island now.

A story on NPR suggested that "chance favors the connected mind," meaning progress comes in the clash of ideas, and those ideas are encountered in the social network, not face to face but face to screen. About the only thing that makes me want to live much longer is to see where this nonsense takes us.
