It's supposed to get down to 34 tonight. That's mighty close to freezing. Hope your plants survive.
Starting a new blog that you may want to check out from time to time..or maybe not. It's up to you!

Roger is allergic to bees and Donnie dreams about them.
"I don't know if we can attribute this to age, but last night I had a new experience, a genuine shouting nightmare.
Linda reported I was groaning loudly and flailing my legs...because of the wasps! In the dream, we came home to find a hole in the dining room wall, and therein a nest of immense wasps. Suddenly I was on the floor, with these immense creatures approaching me from all sides, and I was shouting and trying to run.
Were is Freud when we need him?"

I THINK I NEED THIS T-SHIRT
Check out this fabulous Norwegian T-Shirt on the HOLSEN HUS SCANDINAVIAN HOME WEBSITE
Lynne sent this neat story from the WESTBY TIMES about a black bear that's making the rounds between Coon Valley and Chaseburg. There's a really good photo too.
PASTA SALAD
AND SUMMER
A GREAT COMBO
THIS PASTA SALAD SOUNDS REALLY YUMMY and I'd love to make it but, since I can't have the tomato, cheese, salami or black olives, I'll have to find another one to fill my tummy. The rest of you can make it, however, and tell me how good it was.

You've just got to check out STEVE APPS BLOG RIGHT HERE Steve is chief photographer for the Wisconsin State Journal and he's got some beautiful photos of Great Midwest Alpaca Festival that was held in Madison in April.
This reminds me of my trip to Macchu Pichu.
EARLY TO BED
TONIGHT
I THINK
We had a nice gentle rain most of the afternoon. "A soaker" as John L. used to call them. I had a terrible time trying to stay awake.
I can't read when I'm sleepy. I found myself nodding off before I could get to the end of a paragraph so I put the book away, for another day, and jumped on the computer.
It will be an early bedtime.

YOU CAN'T GET AHEAD
OF SOUTH DAKOTA!
After having dug to a depth of 10 feet last year, New York scientists found traces of copper wire dating back 100 years and came to the conclusion that their ancestors already had a telephone network more than 100 years ago.
Not to be outdone by the New Yorkers, in the weeks that followed, a California archaeologist dug to a depth of 20 feet, and shortly after, a story in the LA Times read: "California archaeologists, report finding of 200 year old copper wire, have concluded that their ancestors already had an advanced high-tech communications network a hundred years earlier than the New Yorkers."
One week later, a local newspaper in South Dakota reported the following: "After digging as deep as 30 feet in his pasture near Webster , South Dakota , Ole Swenson, a self-taught archaeologist, reported that he found absolutely nothing. Ole has therefore concluded that 300 years ago South Dakota had already gone wireless".
COMPANY COMING
Rita and Roger have company coming from Wyoming. Rick and Angela arrive Saturday and will be here for a week.
Whenever I think of Wyoming, I think of Lusk. Driving through that town, with friends, years ago, and I do mean many years ago, on the way to Denver, we were shot at by a group of drunk cowboys, out on the sidewalk, in front of a bar.
They were so drunk they couldn't have hit the broadside of a barn but, needless to say, Denver seemed pretty tame after that.
Another time we were sitting at a bar in Beulah, Wyoming and a drunk cowboy brought his mule into the bar for a drink. No, that's not the opening line of a joke. A drunk cowboy actually brought his mule into the bar for a drink.
I have fond memories of Wyoming....and of bars. In fact, if you want to hear bar stories, I've got a million of 'em!

WHAT'S THAT SMELL?
HERE'S AN ARTICLE ABOUT MONROE, WISCONSIN HOME OF THE WORLDS STINKIEST CHEESE. It's so famous for its stinky cheese that even Larry the Cable Guy has been there to have a taste.
YAHOO!
PICKS THE
MOST EXCITING CITIES IN
THE U.S.A.
If you haven't see the list yet TAKE A LOOK HERE
It's a surprising list. They pick Oakland, California as the #1 exciting city. Aunt Jessie and Uncle Ted lived in Oakland when I was living in San Francisco so I got to Oakland quite a few times. I didn't see anything very exciting then but that was a hundred years ago so things may have changed.
I was also surprised to see Milwaukee at #7. The only thing I've ever seen in Milwaukee is the airport during an unscheduled landing due to wing icing. Still I have to wonder. Austin, Texas doesn't show up at all. I've been to Austin and I can't believe that Milwaukee is more exciting than Austin or Los Angeles which didn't make the list either.
Maybe "excitement" is in the eye of the beholder. Whoever made the list should have been around when I was living in Deadwood back in the early '60's. Back in those days, if it was illegal or exciting we had it in Deadwood. Aaah, for the good old days!
LOVE ON CANVAS
Back in the 80's, Gregory Peck bought his wife a painting to show her he loved her. Now the painting is going on the auction block. It's expected to sell for 3 to 5 million dollars. Take a look at the picture HERE ON THE DAILY BEAST
IT'S TIME
Even though we'll have rain and much cooler temperatures the next few days, I decided it was time to take the cover off the A/C and get it ready to go.
Speaking of those temperatures, we're looking at highs in the 60's tomorrow and Friday and weekend temperatures will be in the mid-50's. I don't like the sound of that!
READ THIS FASCINATING ARTICLE IN THE NEW YORK TIMES
About a group of biologists who are working on creating trees and plants that glow in the dark. They think they could make the trees grow so bright that they could replace streetlights and you could read by the light of the plants! And, think of the money that could be made at Christmas time with glowing Christmas trees!!

ANOTHER BEAUTIFUL DAY
IN THREE RIVERS COUNTRY
The forecast says we're in for another beautiful day of sunny skies with a high around 75. Hard to believe. Three beautiful days in a row. We haven't seen that in a while.
Tomorrow is a rain day with a 70% chance for showers followed by cooler weather, for the weekend, with highs falling back into the 50's.

DONNIE IS BLOWN AWAY
"Call it the end of civilization. Linda came home with an electric leaf blower. Possibly the second worst human invention (after the automobile). It is all hers and I flee at the awful noise."
SPRING FLOWERS IN BLOOM
I made a run over to the co-op and these are the first spring blossoms I've seen. It's a beautiful sight!
WISCONSIN BIRDING
WISCONSIN OUTDOOR FUN has a great page about spring birding in Wisconsin right now. CHECK IT OUT RIGHT HERE.
CHIPS THAT TASTE LIKE
ANYTHING BUT.....
I read a Wisconsin woman, from Wausau, has won a national contest by entering a recipe for a new "flavor" potato chip that tastes like "cheesy garlic bread".
I can't eat potato chips anymore so I don't have to spend 10 minutes pawing through the potato chip bags looking for one that is filled with chips that taste like.....chips. You can find a chip that tastes like almost anything but a potato chip.
Cheesy garlic bread sounds really good. But, NOT in the form of a potato chip. Of course, I can't have cheesy garlic bread anymore either so I guess it doesn't matter to me.......never mind.
YUP!
SPRING HAS SPRUNG
When I got up, this morning, it was 7 degrees warmer here than it was in Dripping Springs! Good morning Texas!
LIFE BEGINS AT 90
Aunt Wilda has such a busy week, with all the birthday parties and gatherings that we're having a hard time finding a day that we can get together with her.

GUESS WHAT.
THE GARDENS WEREN'T IN BABYLON!
It took an Oxford historian 20 years to get the evidence, but Dr. Stephanie Dalley has proved, without a doubt, that the Hanging Gardens of Babylon were 300 miles from Babylon, in Nineveh. And, they werent built by King Nebuchadnezzar. They were built by King Sennacherib.

If you're looking for a super good book, this is it. It's non-fiction but reads like a novel and gives you a super good look into the lives of the billionaires whose toys run into the hundreds of millions of dollars.
It's the story of one of the finest private yacht's in the world. It's about the man who ordered and paid for it. And, it's the story of the people who built it.
If you want to really know how the other half lives. You're not going to believe it, but it's true.

WE HIT OUR FORECAST HIGH OF 70 THIS AFTERNOON
The sun came out and the temperature shot up. I rushed out, of course, to take in some of the welcomed warmth and everyone else did the same thing! Every place you went, it was wall to wall people who have been shut in, out of the cold, for much too long.
I took a good look at the trees and I'm guessing that the bare branches we have now will be dressed out in a fresh new green in three or four days. The buds are just getting ready to pop.

"CITY OF SCOUNDRELS" BY GARY KRIST HAS YOU HOOKED FROM PAGE ONE
Anyone who lives in Chicago, visits Chicago or has friends or family in Chicago will love this book.
I thought the great fire was the biggest bit or history Chicago had until prohibition and the mob took over the city but there's another great story to tell.
The year is 1919 and the story begins with the crash of a blimp that goes down, in flames, right in the middle of the downtown loop which is the start of nine days of disaster that gave birth to modern Chicago.
This is not fiction. It's a carefully documented true story that reads like a runaway train. This video will give you an idea.

DONNIE HAS THE SHIVERS
"Probably the chilliest Cinco de Mayo in the memory of most central Texans. I headed out to walk to the mailbox this morning and was driven back by an unpleasant north wind.
Not to complain. Every cool day is one less brutally hot one. In recent years we have been well into the 90's by now."

HAPPY CINCO DE MAYO!!
Think the Mississippi or Missouri are long rivers??
WE'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS FORECAST FOR A LONG, LONG TIME!
A real spring day has finally arrived. After all the rain we've had, with a couple of days of sunshine and warm temperatures I'll bet we'll see the color GREEN pop out everywhere.
THIS IS A GREAT DAY ON THE BORDER!
I wish I was back down there to celebrate with them.

This is a celebration of the Battle of Puebla, fought on May 5, 1862, in which the Mexican Army defeated the French forces bringing freedom to the Mexican people.
I've got Norway and the Netherlands in my blood but will always have Mexico, and the Mexican people, in my heart.
