MY FAVORITE COLOR IS ORANGE
Folks are impressed with the computer tune-up service I got from Orange Computer here in La Crosse.
Rita said, "I think you should start sending your repair people thank you cards." And Daniel added, "Yes. That is good and very inexpensive service. WOW!"
They were really busy and had so many computers to work on they said they would try hard to get it fixed yesterday but, being they are closed on weekends, they would do it first thing on Monday.
I figured, if they were like most service stores, I might as well plan on going through the weekend without a computer but...the phone rang at 4:30 and it was Orange telling me they had just finished it up and I could come and get it before they closed.
These people give service like we used to get back in the '40's and 50's but rarely see today. And, the prices are more than reasonable.

IT'S FIXED!
My computer is working again, thanks to the guys at Orange Computer! I was glad to hear that this time, for a change, the problem was not my fault. I can't say that very often.
A HOPLESS MESS
I have spent most of the morning, so far, trying to fix yet another mess I made out of this computer.
You don't know what a virus is until you turn me loose on your computer. I have decided that I am the most dangerous computer virus there is. I have the ability to completely destroy your machine in less than 5 minutes.
Hey! What can I say? We all have to be good at something.

I have been tempted to throw this computer out the windows many times but I've never come as close as I did today.
The latest disaster was discovering that the new version of Windows 8...which I got whether I wanted it or not...does not have the wonderful calendar that the old version of Windows 8 had.
I have lost ALL of my calendar entries. Doctor appointments, birthdays, anniversaries and all the rest. It's going to take a long time to try to put that back together again!
You know, through the years I've really tried to like Microsoft but this is just about the last insult I can take from those folks.

THE COMPUTER SAGA CONTINUES
I suspected it from the beginning and now it's looking, more and more, like I picked up a computer virus. Nasty business!
Rita and Roger took their computer to a place in Holmen that did a great job fixing theirs up so we'll take this computer there too. I'm lost without my videos!

IT'S BEEN ONE OF THOSE DAYS
I have spent most of the morning fighting with this #@%**++ computer, trying to log in. "incorrect password", "you don't have an account", and all sorts of other odd messages kept popping up.
How did I fix it? I don't know. I just kept hitting keys and going to different windows and using every naughty word I could think of and, all of a sudden, my computer decided it knew me again. I have a sneaking suspicion it was the naughty words that made the difference.

THAT'S THE WAY IT GOES:
I fixed something on my computer and it's now working much better. My problem is that I really don't know what it was that I fixed and I can't remember where I went or what I did to fix it. I just hope I don't have that problem again.

Back in the saddle again!
The power pack in the modem burned up. Hard to say why but it happens from time to time. Anyway, I got a brand new modem from Rick, the cable guy so, hopefully, I can get through a week or so without a problem. At least, I was happy, this time, that I DIDN'T CAUSE THE PROBLEM!
Interesting how times change.
Donnie sent an interesting article on a recent Pew Research poll asking people what they "can't live without".
It used to be that, when that poll was taken in the past, TV was always at the top of the list of things they had to have. Now less than 50%, of the people questioned say they can't live without a TV. Not surprising when you consider that cable systems across the country lost 2 million subscribers last year. Apparently the "more channels" the cable systems are always talking about isn't much of a selling point. People are wise to the fact that "more channels" just means more junk you pay for but never watch.
Among the younger people, E-Mail is as outdated as I am. The kids never use E-Mail. It's all texting and social networks.
And, desktop computers? Forget it. NO ONE OF ANY AGE is buying them anymore.
Just about the time you've bought all the latest stuff and you think you're on the "cutting edge" they change all the "stuff" again and you're back to square one.
Are we back in business??
I left the modem unplugged yesterday. No power meant it was nice and cool this morning and it worked fine, yesterday, as long as it was cool but would die every time it warmed up. We'll see what happens today. Keep your fingers crossed.
I used to think I was a bit above average in intellengence. Even my I.Q. tests confirmed that. Unfortunately, I must conclude, when it comes to computers I'm as dumb as a post.

MORE COMPUTER PROBLEMS
I know it has to be me. No one else seems to have as many problems as I do. I really don't think I'll ever master this.
Actually, it's not the computer, this time, but the modem that connects the Internet to the computer. It works, for a while, when I first turn it on but goes out as soon as it gets warm.
I am smart enough to know that's a faulty chip in the modem. I have a small "personal" fan that I hooked up to blow on the modem and that seem to keep it cool enough so it works...for now...until I can get it fixed.
If I do, however, fade away, please be aware it's not me that's doing the fading.

I THINK I'VE LEARNED MY LESSON
When I logged on, early this morning, My "trusty" computer was running slow again. So slow I thought I'd pull my hair out. BUT, I didn't try to fix it this time. I don't want to play that game again. This time I just logged off and went about my business. Came back now and it's back to it's usual fast self. They say patience is a virtue but it's a virtue I have very little of. I'm thinking that might be dangerous when you're sitting in front of a computer.

AFTER 3 DAYS IN OUTER SPACE WE HAVE RETURNED
I don't know what went wrong and I don't know how I made it work again. Or should I say, I don't know how I made it work before I threw it out the window. I was getting closer to the window by the minute.
As Donnie pointed out, I don't have a "detail mind". I hate reading instructions and rarely do. When I do attempt to read the "how to" part I usually scan the first and last sentence in a paragraph and the middle part has to take care of itself.
In any event, this latest experience, proves, again, what Donnie said; "if you push enough buttons for enough days eventually you're bound to hit the right combination. After three days I hit the right combination but don't ask me to do it again. I don't really know what I did.
