Look what I saw this morning. It's the first bloom of the season that I've seen!
I saw it over by the convent on my way to Walgreen's this morning. I wore a light jacket over there but had to take it off on the way home. Too warm!! And, a day or two ago I was wearing my parka and freezing.
Could it be that Mother Nature finally has her act together?

Saturday Morning.
Spring must really be here...finally. I'm getting hungry for a tuna salad. For some reason, spring and tuna salad just seem to go together. My other spring favorite is a cucumber salad.
By the way, cucumbers have a lot of vitamin K. You don't hear a lot about that vitamin but it's very important for bone strength. It's also important in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease because it limits neuronal damage in the brain.
It also has a lot of potassium which is good for you but bad for me.
Failing kidneys and potassium don't mix but I sneak it in once in a while. What fun is life is you don't cheat now and then?

I sure hope that yesterdays vote in congress will result in keeping our control tower manned at the La Crosse airport.
By the way, If your congress person was one of those who voted to close the tower, in the first place, and assured us it was perfectly safe to land at an airport without a manned control tower, ask them, then why does the government require a manned control tower before military aircraft can land at the airport?

WHAT WILL THEY THINK OF NEXT?
From now on you won't have to wash your spoon after you finish your soup. You won't have to throw it away either. What do you do with it? YOU EAT IT!

Here's a good one
The forecast says we'll be near 80 on Tuesday. The smile on my face is getting bigger and bigger.
The first Babe Ruth Day was celebrated at Yankee stadium on April 27, 1947.April of 1947 was a big month in baseball history. On April 15, of that year, Jackie Robinson became the first black player in major league baseball since 1884.
WE'RE LOOKING FOR A BRIGHT AND SUNNY SATURDAY WITH A HIGH OF 66.
Did you know that the Mineral Point railroad depot is the oldest depot in Wisconsin? By the way, it's now a museum.

LOVIN' THE WEATHER!
74 DEGREES AT 3:00PM.
I went over to the library to get some movies for the weekend without a coat or jacket! First time this season and it sure feels good!

R.I.P. GEORGE JONES. THANKS FOR THE GREAT MUSIC.
So sorry to hear about the death of GEORGE JONES at the age of 81 today. He was a true GIANT in the world of country music. He will be missed.
SPRING HAS SPRUNG!
Only 5 days to May. There are some very important birthdays in May.
A guy joins a monastery and takes a vow of silence: he’s allowed to say two words every seven years.
After the first seven years, the elders bring him in and ask for his two words. "Cold floors," he says. They nod and send him away.
Seven more years pass. They bring him back in and ask for his two words. He clears his throats and says, "Bad food." They nod and send him away.
Seven more years pass. They bring him in for his two words. "I quit," he says. "That’s not surprising," the elders say. "You’ve done nothing but complain since you got here."
HAPPY PRETZEL DAY
A SENIOR MOMENT FOR WILLARD YESTERDAY
"I had grocery coupons attached to my shopping list.
Unloaded the cart at the checkout and no coupons where I thought I put them. They weren't on the floor. The cashier even helped me look. No coupons anywhere.
Loaded the groceries into the vehicle, reached in my jacket pocket to pull out the car keys and pulled out the coupons with them.
Give me a break."

SPRING!
I made a run to FESTIVAL and everyone I saw had a smile on their face. Sunshine and 60 degrees. It finally feels like spring.
Already 50 degrees at 6 A.M. I like it!

A BUNCH OF BIRTHDAYS TODAY
Today will be warmer but no record breaker. The warmest it's ever been, in La Crosse, on April 26, was 86 and that was way back in 1962. Those were the good old days!

GRANDMA SOLBERG DIED
My wife asked me the other day, "At your age, what would you prefer to get..Parkinsons Disease or Alzheimer's?"

THE CABLE COMPANIES ARE GETTING DESPERATE.
Time Warner is no longer going to offer low prices for the first 12 months of service before they jack up the price for the next 12 months.
Like all the other cable companies, customers are abandoning the sinking cable ship in big numbers. Now, if you want a thousand channels of crap they're going to charge the big bucks right up front. No more discount offers, baby!

The innocent love of babies.
Then we grow up and things turn ugly. An Oklahoma father asks his son to turn down the volume on the music he was listening to.
The son doesn't like that so he throws gasoline and a lighter on his father and sets him on fire.
It just leaves you at a loss for words.
FINALLY!!! THE SUN CAME OUT AND THERE'S BLUE SKY. LET'S HOPE THIS IS THE START OF REAL SPRING WEATHER!

Tonights full moon is called the FULL PINK MOON because this is the month that the phlox wildflower blooms with its bright pink flowers.
Other phlox plants also bloom in summer and fall and you might see them with blue, violet, red or even white flowers in addition to the pink and they smell good too!
A new Gallup Poll, just out, shows that only 15% of the American people approve of the job that congress is doing. That's the 15% who will believe anything you tell them.
The sad thing is that the other 85% will turn right around and vote most of the same people back in for another term and then wonder why the country is going to hell.
The problem with this type of government is that it only works for people who aren't brain dead.
I'm so happy to see that David Letterman will have A.J. Clemente on his show tonight.
A. J. is the young man who was nervous as hell on his first night as news anchor on a North Dakota TV station. I know the feeling. Your heart is beating a hundred miles an hour, you start to sweat and you can't even think of your first name when that red light goes on for the first time and you're on the air and expected to perform.
That's what happened to A.J. and he accidentally blurted out the "F" word. The management of the TV station, being the A-holes they are, rather than giving the kid a break, fired him on the spot.
I sent A.J. a note and told him to hang in there. He, probably, doesn't think so now but it DOES get better.
I very well remember one of my very earliest days in radio. I was reading a commercial for a mens store. It was live, of course, as most things were in those days, and the commercial had to do with a sale on mens shirts.
Unfortunately, the copy writer missed the "R" key while she was typing the commercial and I read it like she wrote it. I said the mens store had "mens shit on sale".
Fortunately, I had a manager with a sense of humor who had been in radio forever and knew what life behind the mike was like. He laughed so hard he nearly fell off his chair.
I sure hope A.J. does well with Letterman tonight. Who knows, there might be a manager with a sense of humor, somewhere out there, who will give A. J. a second chance.
THE NORMAL HIGH FOR TODAY IS 64. TODAY'S EXPECTED HIGH WILL BE AROUND 54.

FIND A PLUMBER AND HUG HIM TODAY!
What a coincidence. Yesterday it took a plumber to unplug my kitchen sink and today is HUG A PLUMBER DAY. I didn't hug him but I sure was grateful when I saw all that water go down the drain again.
You have no idea how wonderful it is to have a maintenance man in the building every weekday. If I have a problem, five minutes later he's here to fix it. I like that!

STILL A BIT ON THE COOL SIDE TODAY with a high of 50 but we'll have lots of sunshine and we can look forward to MUCH WARMER WEATHER TOMORROW. The forecast says 64 tomorrow, 67 on Saturday and 70 on Sunday. That's more like it. Maybe there is an end to the non-ending winter.
It was on the 25th of April, 1874 that Guglielmo Marconi was born in Bologna, Italy. I can't forget his birthday because without him I would never have had all those great years in radio.
What I want to know is how did he get up there and how does he get down?

I got a message from Gunderson Clinic, this morning, reminding me of a road closure. No problem for me as I don't have any appointments during this period but it might help others who will be out that way.
Highway 16 will be closed to all traffic in front of Valley View mall, from the Red Lobster intersection to the Kwik Trip intersection by the clinic. Please follow the detour signs to get to the Gundersen Onalaska Clinic.
The closure begins Sunday, April 28th and will last for two weeks. The detour will direct all traffic to the interstate by Festival Foods, and then off the interstate at exit 5, which is the Gundersen Onalaska exit. Please allow extra travel time in getting to your appointment.

With winds gusting to 25 MPH and temperatures staying below 40 most of the day it will be another miserable, cold day BUT I think I finally see an end to this.
The forecast for Friday calls for a high of 62 and Saturday a high of 65. We'll be in the 70's by Sunday. That sure will feel a lot more like spring.

QUIT COMPLAINING!
Rapid City got 6 inches of snow today which makes a total of 43.4 inches for the month!
FROM DUANE:
"About 7 inches of snow on my property. Neighbor is scooping me out. Clearing the decks and paths.
Hate this cold snow. We've broken all records for April this year."

Parts of Minnesota, including the Twin Cities, are in for another big snow storm tomorrow. The snow was ripping through Wyoming last night.
Angela writes from Worland, "This is what we woke up to this morning. It was 55 yesterday with no snow on the ground. It's still snowing pretty hard this morning."

I mentioned Round Rock doughnuts the other day. A Texas doughnut that is supposed to be about the best doughnut you'll ever eat.
Donnie has a friend from Round Rock so he asked him about this tasty treat.
His friend replied, "Round Rock glazed donuts are iconic in central Texas. People love them. The original bakery burned down about 10 years ago and they rebuilt a much nicer, larger building.
Most of their business is drive-through and the line to the window snakes around the block on most mornings. On Saturdays the line is there from open to close."
Donnie adds, "Austinites are so sociable and trendy that they love to stand in line. It's hard to get anything to eat on weekends because everyone in the city loves to go to the most popular cafes and stand in line for hours."

"Racoons have discovered our wildlife cafe, and have knocked two bird feeders to the ground to get at contents.
Night-owl Linda spotted one at 2 a.m., in the tree right outside her window.
We will have to scale back our hand-outs for a while to break the coon habit. They are cute, but destructive and dangerous. At least deer don't try to take up residence in attics."

A CHORUS LINE IS A WINNER
You know I can find fault with anything. It really upsets me that I could find no fault with "A Chorus Line" at the new Webber
Center for the Performing Arts in La Crosse. Both Rita and I agreed. We'd love to go back tomorrow and see it again.
The music was great, dancing was great, lighting was excellent and, of course, the story line is fantastic and that's why it was on Broadway for 15 years.
We can really be proud to have this caliber of theater in La Crosse. Viterbo University has a super theater arts department and I shows in this fabulous production. I wish you all could have seen it.
