A MASTERPIECE
IT'S DAMN COLD IN THE WINTER AND DAMN HOT IN THE SUMMER ON THE PLAINS OF WESTERN SOUTH DAKOTA
PHILIP THIS AFTERNOON
89 DEGREES
HEAT INDEX: 92
MUCH TOO WET WISCONSIN
Our rivers and streams, around La Crosse, will continue to flood or be close to flood stage through the weekend.
There's a chance for more thunderstorms through Monday and, although the weather won't be severe, WE COULD GET A FEW DOWNPOURS and the last thing we need is "a few downpours".

I'M CONFUSED
When they had the unveiling of the wall mural at the Pump House I was under the impression it was finished. Don't you wait until your masterpiece is done to unveil it?
Yesterday, when the sun finally came out, I walked down there to take a look. I was surprised to find the scaffolding still in place and most of the mural still covered with tarp. What little I could see made it obvious that there was a lot more work to be done. With all the rain I can understand that. I guess I'll have to wait a little longer to see it.
ISN'T THIS JUST TOO MUCH
The tornado in Wessington Springs was no laughing matter. It is such a tragedy and I'm wishing the best for those folks.
Having said that, even in the worst of times there always seems be a lighter side that goes with it.
Like most of the other buildings in town, the Wessington Springs American Legion building was flattened....except for one thing that's still standing tall and proud. The bar wasn't touched. It's as good as new!!! There's a message there, folks! Think about it.

I HOPE I LIVE LONG ENOUGH TO SEE THIS BUILT
China is at it again. They plan to build another one of those tall buildings. This one will take its place as the TALLEST BUILDING IN THE WORLD AND ALSO THE PINKIST BUILDING!!! That's right, folks, a PINK skyscraper!

NO RAIN THIS MORNING!!
Bob and Lynne and Eric and Bert are getting rain today but we're high and dry in La Crosse this morning and the weather man says we'll stay that way all day with only a slight chance for a thunderstorm tonight.
THERE GO THE LILACS
RITA REPORTS they lost most of their huge lilac bush to the storm the night before last. She said it was almost "completely flattened".
"Terrel came up and took most of it away today. The rest should be OK and even better than it was."
RIP GERRY GOFFIN
Gerry Goffin brought a lot of enjoyment into my younger years as he did for so many millions of others. The world has lost a great song writer at the age of 75.
It was Gerry, along with Carole King who gave us these great hits and many, many more.

WHAT HAVE I DONE TO DESERVE THIS?
The forecast calls for MORE HEAVY RAIN TONIGHT and then a slight chance for more rain every damn day through Monday.
The 4th of July is right around the corner and I have, yet, to see a full week that feels like summer to me.
I'm losing my sense of humor.
FLOOD STAGE AND BEYOND
A FLOOD WARNING HAS BEEN POSTED FOR THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER AT LA CROSSE.
Flood stage is 12.0 feet and it should rise to 13.2 feet by next Saturday June 28.
TORNADO DAMAGE
It looks like the tornado that went through Wessington Springs (South Dakota) did some real damage.

STILL RAINING
This is just unbelievable. Waking up, day after day, to falling rain. You think it's got to stop pretty soon but, the next morning the rain is coming down again.
There is good news, however. There's only a 20% chance for rain tomorrow morning and then THE SUN WILL BREAK OUT TOMORROW AFTERNOON and we'll be able to dry out Friday and Saturday. In the meantime, the National Weather Service is advising there's a possibility of flooding this morning.
Enough is enough and too much is too much and we've had TOO MUCH!

THE TREES TOOK A BEATING
Every place we went today, in town and in the country, there were trees and limbs down everywhere. We had one wicked storm last night and it's not over. THERE'S A 70% CHANCE FOR HEAVY RAIN TONIGHT.
A VISIT TO THE DOCTOR AND THE FARM
After my early morning visit with the dermatologist I went over the hill spend part of the day with Rita, Roger and Terrel.
The doctor took a bump off my ear and I should get a letter within 10 days giving me the results. This is not the same ear that had the previous cancer growth. It's the other ear.
Had a good time at the farm but I didn't get anything done at home today. That's OK. I guess that's the point of being retired. You don't have to do anything!
SOCIAL SECURITY HITS THE ROAD....GOOD LUCK IN GETTING ANY HELP IF YOU NEED IT!
And, just think! They built that beautiful new building in La Crosse so they can shut it down.

UNLESS YOU LIKE SOGGY FOOD, FORGET TODAYS HOLIDAY
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH IS ENOUGH
I heard more rain falling overnight. It woke me up just enough to hear it but I'm getting so used to waking up and hearing rain that I just rolled over and went back to sleep.
I think we're going to get some more rain this morning and there's more rain forecast in the days ahead.
Rita was whining about how dry things were around the farm while we were driving to Madison on Monday. I hope she's happy now.

WHAT LAST NIGHTS STORM DID IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD
I spotted this tree down about a half block from the apartment house while I was on my way to the library.
Folks were mighty lucky because the tree fell on the sidewalk. If it had been blown over the other way it would have gone right through the roof of the house.
The say we have a good chance for more storms the next several days. Hope they aren't as bad as last nights was.

WE LUCKED OUT WITH THE STORMS LAST NIGHT
We had some trees come down and a few cars were damaged.
WEST OF US IT WAS MUCH WORSE. The rain came down so fast in SIOUX FALLS they saw a half inch of rain fall in just 3 minutes during the afternoon.
Here in Wisconsin, Madison had a possible tornado overnight that caused damage to homes and schools.
The worst was in northeast Nebraska, however where TWIN TORNADOES DAMAGED 75% OF THE TOWN AND KILLED A 5 YEAR OLD GIRL.
Here is a video of that tornado.

STORMY NIGHT IN LA CROSSE
The thunder and lightening woke me up at some point during the night but I had been sleeping so soundly I really don't know what time it was.
From what I've read, this morning, the stormed downed some trees, damaging a few cars, in a parking lot at UW-La Crosse. The power went out in parts of the south side of the city.
WHAT KIND OF COFFEE ARE YOU DRINKING THIS MORINING?
Here's an expert coffee taster in a blind taste test.
When I was working at the hotel I heard the same comments from the guests as you'll hear from the expert in this video when we started serving Starbucks.
Now you know why they have to fill the cup full of whipped cream, chocolate and a lot of other stuff to sell it at those laughable prices. The straight coffee will gag you.
CULVERS FLOWERS
On our trip home from Madison, yesterday, we saw this flower cart display outside of Culvers Restaurant. Rita thinks she needs one for the yard. I agree!!

WHAT A GREAT TRIP TO MADISON
Rita, Terrel and I took Jake back to the University for a summer course he's taking which started this afternoon. It was great driving to Madison because Terrel entertained us the whole way.
Rita found a great place to sit while waiting for the boys to bring the car around.
Meanwhile I took a break in the men's room and guess what I found!
You know how Donnie likes to take photos of businesses, towns or any other sign anywhere that has his name on it? Well, guess where I found his name this time!!
I have to believe he'll look a long time before he beats a "DON" IN THE URINAL!!!
DOING NOTHING IS GOOD STUFF
I thought this item on TWITTER interesting this morning. I've reached this point in life and, believe me, no one does nothing and zero better than I do.
There comes a point in your life when you realize it's way happier doing nothing and being at zero, than pushing harder and getting to minus

MADISON FACT
Since we're going to Madison today, it's a good time to pass along this bit of "Madison Trivia".
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE CRASH!
I haven't had this song going through my head in a long time but it will today. BILLY "CRASH" CRADDOCK is celebrating his 76th birthday today. The country singer hit it big in 1971 with "Rub it In".
A BUSY DAY TODAY
I have a dermatology appointment this morning and then I'm going with Rita and Terrel to take Jake back to the University in Madison. He graduated this spring but he's taking another course this summer. If he keeps this up he'll soon be as smart as I am.
I'm looking forward to a drive in the country.

BACK IN THE DAYS OF GOOD TV
Before the cable and 10,000 channels of crap to choose from there was the real great TV viewing like this show.
Here's a bit of that good "HEE HAW" type humor from that humorous state of North Dakota.
HEE HAW was first seen on CBS on June 15, 1969 and comedy has never been the same since.

ARTSPIRE IS A HIT
I still haven't gotten down to see the new mural, on the west side of the pump house, that was unveiled this weekend. They, probably, didn't miss me. The two day event attracted about 5,000 folks. I'll try to get down there soon, depending on the rain, which we could do without right now.
RAIN? MAYBE.
I didn't hear any rain falling but I heard the wind howling when I woke up, briefly, in the middle of the night.
Around 4:15 I heard some light raindrops start to hit the window. Most of the heavier rain is staying west of us.
Minneapolis is wet, again, this morning. Another raincoat day for Carl and Kathy.

It looks like we'll have a chance for thunderstorms every day through Friday and there could be some FLASH FLOODING.
I plan to stay five floors "high and dry"..
