Carl contributed this today.
I
very quietly confided to my best friend that I was having an
affair.
She turned to me and asked, “Are you having it catered?”
And that, my friend, is the sad definition of “OLD”!

No doubt about it. There has been a change in the seasons!
There was a definite chill in the apartment when I got up. I checked the outside temperature. Down to 46 degrees with a wind chill of 43!
We haven't felt 40 degree temperatures in a while. It will take some getting used to again. Guess I'd better pull the jackets to the front of the closet.
We're going to see increasing clouds during the day with a 90% chance for RAIN tonight and, boy, do we need it! Tonight will bring an 80% chance for showers with the temperature falling to 43 degrees.
Sounds like fall to me!

News from Lynne.
"Bob had knee surgery on 9/11 and is home recovering very nicely. Not running any races though. He didn't have to have the full knee replacement which was good. Just home yesterday and uses a walker to get around as he can't put pressure on that leg. Therapy starts Monday in Janesville but the surgery was at Meriter Hospital in Madison. Then in December he will have the right knee done.
It's lucky he loves watching tv as that is about all he can do besides eating. :-)
Bob talked to his mom and she is doing okay. We won't be going anywhere for awhile so lucky we have cell phones to keep in touch with her. We could have had tickets to the Brewer game and luxury seats at the Packer game Sunday. Bad timing."

Uncle Bob called this morning and he sure did sound chipper!
He and I. both, have the same nephrologist so he wanted to tell me about his first visit. He sure does like him and that's good. I like him too.
He had some other news. Friend is about done with his schooling and he will now be permanently stationed in Colorado. I'm sure he'll like it there.

I see my former employer is showing off again. This time in New York.
The Four Seasons Hotel is now booking its new Penthouse suite in the Big Apple. High above Manhattan, the 4,300 square foot suite comes with 24 hour butler and limo driver service and a 360 degree view of the city.
It's "a bit pricey" at $45,000 a night but then again, when you consider the company spent $50 million building the space, $45,000 isn't so much. Let me emphasize, that $50 million wasn't the cost of the building the hotel is housed in. That $50 million was spent on just that one suite.
I'll say one thing for the time I spent working at the Four Seasons. It gave me a chance to see, up close and personal, how the other class lives....and let me tell you, they live very well.
If you should decide you want to spend a night there, you can tell your friends you stayed at the most expensive hotel suite in New York City.

I'm glad I caught this Tweet.
This was where I stayed my first night in Deadwood, way back in February of 1959. Little did I know, then, that my permanent home, while I lived in Deadwood, would be right behind the Franklin Hotel.

Does that sound good to you? When chocolate melts in your mouth but not in your hand it sounds good. Pumpkin Spice melting in my mouth but not in my hand???? Nope. Just doesn't cut it.

Never fear. Your government has everything under control.
The government spent $213 million to upgrade the security system at the nations nuclear bomb-making facilities at Los Alamos, New Mexico and guess what. It doesn't work.
By the way, did you know those facilities sit on a fault line?
And, we lecture other countries about endangering their citizens with chemical weapons???

Another note from the doctors office
The next time you see the doctor they'll have a new question to ask you if your a Medicare patient. They now are required to ask you if you've fallen down recently.''
When the nurse asked me, this morning, in my typical fashion, the first thing that popped into my head came right out my mouth. I said, "No. I haven't fallen down since I quit drinking." She loved it. Said she'd have to tell her husband.

My kidney doctor says I'm good to go for another six months.
He says my blood test results look great and he complimented me on sticking to my diet.
We got to talking about diet and he was lamenting the eating habits of today's young people. He says they have 10 year old kids coming in with type 2 and 3 diabetes, heart problems, etc. He said they never saw that in the old days.
The junk food and fast food joints are taking their toll. A lot of the schools are removing the bad stuff from their vending machines but, unfortunately, they kids are learning their eating habits at home so it's a big problem as they eat their way into an early grave.
In the meantime, the tests go on. Next stop is Imaging Services, next week, for a routine echo heart exam. Failing kidneys cause damage to the heart and with the Terpstra history of heart disease it's best to keep an eye on it.
I've seen more doctors in the last two years than I saw in all the rest of my life. That's the joy of getting old.

I hear the old songs and it always reminds me of where I was living and what I was doing at the time.
I heard this song, this morning, and it took me back to 1978. I was living in Sioux Falls and doing country radio in those days. This song, however, was a long way from country. Those were the disco days and this was one of my favorites.
I, actually, did get out on the disco dance floor a few times in those days...but let me quickly add....I was really, really drunk when I did that performance and it was nothing like John Travolta.

I gotta go to the doctor today.
It's my nephrologist who, by the way, is the same doctor that Uncle Bob is now seeing.
I don't really know why I'm going. I had all the blood work done last week and I already got an email from the doctor stating that he had reviewed the numbers and they all looked good. Kidney function is stable at 47%.
So, what's the point of the office visit? The only thing I can think of is that's it's just a necessary procedure I have to go though so that they can charge me for another doctor visit.

Linda Gray, the "DALLAS" TV star turns 73 today.
That means she is now the same age as me.
This clip is from "The Talk", on CBS, which aired a year ago when she was 72.
Now, I ask you. Which one of us looks like we're in our 70's. Linda Gray or me?

The end is near.
The end of summer-like weather, that is. Temperatures were in the 60's when I got up this morning. Tomorrow morning we'll be looking at lows closer to the upper 40's. Today will be, almost, perfect with sunshine and high's 70's. The downside to the weather is, still no rain in the forecast.

REST IN PEACE
An old man and woman were married for many years. Whenever there was a
confrontation, yelling could be heard deep into the night. The old man
would shout, "When I die, I will dig my way up and out of the grave and
come back and haunt you for the rest of your life!"
Neighbors feared him. The old man liked the fact that he was feared. To everyone's relief, he died of a heart attack when he was 98. His wife had a closed casket at the funeral.
After the burial, her neighbors, concerned for her safety, asked "Aren't you afraid that he may indeed be able to dig his way out of the grave and haunt you for the rest of your life?"
The wife said, "Let him dig. I had him buried upside down. And I know he won't ask for directions.

Big doings in West Salem this weekend.
They're celebrating Hamlin Garland Days Friday, Saturday and Sunday. During the weekend a lot of folks take a tour through Hamlin Garlands home. The tour guides make a big deal about how he lived in the home but they always fail to mention that Donnie and I lived in that house too. This is a picture of Donnie in the room where Garland did his writing.
Rain north of us and south of us but it's dry as a bone in the middle this morning.
The best part of the forecast is cooler temperatures. Highs will be around 83 today, 72 tomorrow and 65 on Friday.

Rita called this morning to say that Uncle Bob is doing OK.
His lungs were inflamed so the doctors gave him some medication and he started feeling better shortly after taking it. He's back home again.

We're celebrating the birth of the "TV DINNER" today.
I don't remember us sitting around, in front of the TV, eating a TV dinner. I'm quite sure that never happened at our house. In the first place, we didn't even have a TV in September of 1953, when TV dinners hit the stores, and there were no such things as "radio dinners".
The Donlans, across the street, had a TV. Gladys and Lee, had a TV. We went across the street to watch TV.
There were kids shows in the late afternoon. Donnie and I watched those, with Jeff and Kathy, at Gladys and Lee's house. On Sunday nights we watched "The Toast of the Town" with Ed Sullivan at the Donlans house. No TV dinners over there either.
We were rather "old fashioned" in Marion. When it was dinner time we still sat around the table and talked to each other. We didn't have any TV trays in those days and the TV dinners were too hot to sit on your lap.
Of course "talking to each other" is a thing of the past. Only old folks "talk to each other". The kids only know how to "text" each other. And, of course, you can't get TV dinners anymore. The only thing they have at the store is "frozen dinners". I wonder why they don't call them "computer dinners"?

It sure didn't cool down much overnight.
At 4:00 A.M. it was still 80 degrees in La Crosse. Our highs, today, should be in the mid 80's with a
20% chance for thunderstorms today and a 40% chance tonight.

I had to break down and turn the A/C on. It will be cooler tomorrow and there's a slight chance we could get a shower or thunderstorm tomorrow afternoon. We sure could use it.

We're under a HEAT ADVISORY from noon to 8:00 PM. Afternoon highs will be in the upper 90's with a heat index between 100 to 105. I need to make a run to Walgreen's for pills, early this morning, and then I'll stay in and keep cool the rest of the day.

Gonzalez Gonzalez and Marx is a funny video but Donnie sent the rest of the story.
Ramiro was actually in show business from the age of 7. He appeared in several John Wayne movies including "Rio Bravo" and "The High and the Mighty".
On television he appeared on "Gunsmoke" and "Wanted Dead or Alive".
He was in the movie "Hook, Line and Sinker" starring Jerry Lewis. He also did voice overs in several Mel Blanc cartoons.
He passed away in 2000.
