HEY! HAVE I GOT A DEAL FOR YOU!

We've got "kin" in WYOMING so this story about an upcoming auction caught my eye.  It's at BUFORD, Wyoming, the highest town on Interstate 80 between California and New York.  And, that's not all that makes Buford interesting.

Located between Cheyenne and Laramie, the town has a population of ONE and that one gentleman is retiring and moving out.

The town comes with a good parcel of land, gas station, convenience store and a 3 bedroom home.

It also comes with some of the meanest, coldest, windiest winters in the USA.  So mean that the Interstate gets closed down during the worst of the storms.  But, hey!  The Wild West ain't for no sissys.

The auction starts at noon on April 5.  Opening bid $100,000.

Be there or be a sissy!

A BIT OF TRIVIA FROM DONNIE

The holder for the record of the most PGA WINS is not Tiger Woods or Jack Nicklaus.  It's still SAM SNEAD.

HERE'S SOME IMPORTANT WISCONSIN HISTORY

It was on this day, January 4, 1923, that the Sperry Candy Company of Milwaukee introduced CHICKEN DINNER CANDY BARS to the world.  It was a chocolate covered nut roll.  I don't know what that has to do with chicken dinner but the candy bar became one of the biggest sellers in the country.

WE DO MORE THAN DRINK BEER AND EAT CHEESE

Laugh at Wisconsin if you want but we have the SMARTEST CITY OUT OF 100 CITIES IN AMERICA.

Men's Health magazine says Madison's average household has more degrees than a thermometer.  The second smartest city is Plano, Texas.

I thought, with cousin Bill living there, he might be able to raise the I.Q. of Las Vegas but, alas, they come in third from the bottom beating out only Cleveland and Miami.

It was on this date, November 23, 1889:

The first juke box the world ever saw was installed at the Palais Royale in San Francisco.  That was just a bit before I lived there so, unfortunately, I missed it.

Did you know???

The Algonquin Indians of Wisconsin called the cranberry "Atoqua".

A great Thanksgiving drink would be the CRANBERRY KISS.

The Recipe:
  • 6 oz. cranberry juice
  • 1 oz. orange juice
  • 1 oz. vodka (to kill any germs)
  • top with club soda
During World War 2, U.S. troops consumed a million pounds of dehydrated cranberries a year.

Wisconsin produces more cranberries than any other state and it's our state fruit.

GUESS WHAT I JUST READ....
There are 14,725 golf courses in the USA and the area of land they cover is almost equal to the size of Delaware and Rhode Island combined.

A LITTLE TRIVIA......

I'm reading the new biography of chess champion Bobby Fischer, "END GAME" by Frank Brady which, by the way, is fascinating.  I came across this bit of trivia which should interest Donnie and Linda since they've been there.

Icelands Parliament was founded in 930 A.D., during Viking times, and it's still going strong making it the oldest Parliament in the world.  Sounds like that's a government that must be doing something right!

And, here's something else about Iceland.  Every year LONELY PLANET picks the best travel destination for the New Year and this year they picked ICELAND as the place to visit.  CLICK HERE TO CHECK OUT THE STORY

THE GOOD OLD RAILROAD DAYS

The oldest surviving structure from the old train days of the Milwaukee Road is in Mineral Point, Wisconsin. Wonder if Aunt Wilda has been there. Click here to read more about the old depot.

HERE'S A DIET FOR YOU

In her new book, "I'm Over All That", Shirley MacLaine tells how Marlene Dietrich kept such a beautiful figure. She only ate every other day.

FUN FACT OF THE DAY

Mexico City is sinking at the rate of 10 centimetres a year which means it is sinking 10 times faster than Venice!

DONNIE'S TRAFFIC REPORT

"Texas A and M University researchers report that Austin traffic is the 3rd worst in nation, after only Los Angeles and Washington, DC. Austin traffic is more congested than Houston or Dallas-Ft. Worth; and we tie with New York and San Francisco."

I DIDN'T KNOW THAT

Every time I click on TWITTER I learn something new. Just now I learned that TASER, that thing the cops use, is an acronym and it stands for Thomas A. Swift's Electric Rifle. C'mon. Be honest. You didn't know that either.

BRAIN TRIVIA

NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC sent out some information on their new book about the human body. It looks like a great addition to your library, by the way.

The brochure contains some interesting bits of trivia. For instance, did you know that your brain generates more electrical impulses in a single day than all the worlds telephones put together.

You notice I said your brain. I don't think mine puts out that much juice. My batteries are starting to run low.

A TRIVIA TIDBIT

I'm really having fun reading "Anything Goes" a biography of the Roaring 20's by Lucy Moore.  It's just filled with lots of fun trivia.

Here's one for you.  Who owned the first private swimming pool in Los Angeles?

Give up?

It was Mary Pickford.
