DUANE IS COPING WITH THE WEATHER BUT JUST BARELY.
"The storm knocked out power for over an hour. Got candles and flashlights out. I think I need a Coleman Lantern.
My Niece and her husband have no power and snowdrifts are blocking their driveway so they can't get out.
I may need some help with my driveway and broken tree branches.
What a mess this is!"

WINTER HAS ARRIVED OUT WEST!
Rapid City is getting hit with a major winter storm today. They're expecting 10 to 18 inches of snow with higher amounts in the foothills. Winds could gust as high as 70 MPH giving them a real head start on winter!!
They've picked up 3 to 5 inches of snow in Worland, Wyoming with some tree damage reported. Blowing snow is causing trouble for travelers.
March 20, the first day of spring, sure seems a long way away, doesn't it?

90% CHANCE FOR THUNDERSTORMS TODAY WITH A 90% CHANCE TONIGHT.
This is the latest from the National Weather Service.
PERIODS OF THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED FRIDAY THROUGH SATURDAY AS A
STRONG STORM SYSTEM IMPACTS THE AREA.VERY HEAVY RAIN IS LIKELY WITH THESE STORMS, ESPECIALLY FRIDAY NIGHT ALONG AND NORTH OF INTERSTATE 90 WHICH COULD LEAD TO LOCALIZED FLOODING DEPENDING ON HOW MUCH RAIN OCCURS BEFORE THEN.
IN ADDITION TO THE HEAVY RAIN CONCERN THERE IS POTENTIAL FOR SOME OF THE STORMS FRIDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH SATURDAY TO PRODUCE LARGE HAIL AND DAMAGING WINDS. TORNADOES COULD OCCUR AS WELL FRIDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING ESPECIALLY ACROSS SOUTHERN MINNESOTA AND NORTHERN IOWA.

WE'VE HAD A RAINY AFTERNOON IN LA CROSSE. WE NEED ALL THE RAIN WE CAN GET.

NO DOUBT ABOUT IT. WINTER IS ON THE WAY!
Worland, Wyoming will see rain change to snow with 2 to 4 inches of snow in the area along with winds gusting to 50 MPH or more. By late tonight and tomorrow morning, travel could become impossible in the mountain passes.
In the Rapid City area 6 or more inches of snow is possible in the foothills of the Black Hills. The snow, along with gusty winds is sure to make driving pretty miserable.
We'll still have summer weather in the La Crosse area today with isolated thunderstorms and an afternoon high near 78 degrees.
We could see some severe weather with large hail, damaging winds, heavy rain and even tornadoes tomorrow afternoon into Saturday.

DUANE SAYS THE COLD WEATHER WILL KILL THE OUTSIDE FLOWERS AND BUGS
Rapid City is looking at a very nasty Friday with lots of wind, rain and snow. The forecast high for Friday is only 37 degrees and Friday night will see temperatures fall into the upper 20's. Further west, Worland, Wyoming (Rick and Angela's home) is looking for 1 to 3 inches of SNOW Thursday night.
I THINK ESQUIRE MAGAZINE HAS SAID IT ALL, CONCERNING THIS CONGRESS, IN ONE LINE
Speaking to the voters, the magazine says, "We looked at our legacy of self-government and we handed ourselves over to the reign of morons."
WE'VE BEEN HAVING SUCH BEAUTIFUL WEATHER THE PAST FEW DAYS THAT I ALMOST FORGOT IT WOULD HAVE TO END SOONER OR LATER
Clouds will start moving in today and bring lightening and heavy rain to the area tonight and thunderstorms will continue to be likely Thursday through Saturday.
Some of the storms could be severe with large hail, damaging winds, heavy rain and tornadoes.
What a bummer! We got through the summer without any nasty weather and NOW we get it.
The temperatures are going to start to cool down too. Highs will be in the 70's through Friday but the weekend will bring highs only in the 50's.

NOW I KNOW, FOR SURE, THAT SUMMER IS GONE AND FALL IS HERE
The surest sign of fall is not the falling leaves or the cooler temperatures. The surest sign of fall is when the church suppers start and there's one tonight in Houston.
It's at the Cross of Christ Lutheran Church, in Houston, Minnesota. Meatballs, potatoes and gravy, a salad bar, homegrown squash, corn and pie. Serving starts at 4:00 PM.

THE OCTOBER ISSUE OF NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC IS SPECTACULAR
It's a special photo issue and there are some stunning photos. And, how do they get such good pictures? They take a lot of them! In fact, according to the magazine, they take 1,331 photos for every photo that actually ends up making it into the magazine.
HOW WAS SEPTEMBER WEATHER IN LA CROSSE THIS YEAR? I'D SAY, "PRETTY GOOD"!
21 days, in September, were fair weather days with only 2 cloudy days.
We didn't get a single thunderstorm. There were 4 days of heavy rain and 10 days of light rain with 13 days of fog.
Come to think of it, we didn't have any really bad thunderstorms this summer.

LSE TO DFW NON-STOP
With a grant from the department of transportation, the La Crosse Municipal Airport is working toward non-stop air service from La Crosse to Dallas-Ft. Worth via American Airlines. It could take six-months, or more, to get the route up and running but, if it comes, it could mean big savings in time and money for travelers heading south from La Crosse.
OCTOBER FIRST AND WE'RE WITHOUT A GOVERNMENT
That's, probably, the best news of the day. With that freak show we elected to congress, this country, I'm sure, will run better without a government.
TALK ABOUT CRAZY WEATHER!
Here we are, October first and the high, today, will be around 75 in La Crosse. Meanwhile, by the end of this week Duluth could get its first snowfall of the season! Duluth, normally, doesn't see the first snow until late October. Go figure.

It's 68 for men and 72 for women. That means I'm already 5 years over the line. That reminds me of a song!

WE CAN'T SEEM TO GET THROUGH OKTOBERFEST WITHOUT SOME DAMAGE
This year it was overturned cars in the UW-La Crosse campus area. A witness said there were 7 people involved. The paper called them "HOOLIGANS". I love that word and thought only Roger still used it but, apparently, the folks at the Tribune think it's a good word too.
The dictionary defines "HOOLIGAN" as a young man who does noisy or violent things as part of a gang.
Where did it come from? I goes back to the 1800's in merry old England where an Irish bad boy named Patrick Hooligan raised hell in London town.
Here's a wild bunch of hooligans...

THE LAST SCHOOL DAY IN SEPTEMBER IS CELEBRATED AS "ASK A STUPID QUESTION DAY"
This holiday was started by teachers back in the 1980's in hopes of getting kids to ask more questions in the classroom.
I used to ask a lot of questions but I gave it up because I could never remember the answer.

THE WEATHERMAN IS WARNING OF STRONG WINDS AROUND LA CROSSE TODAY
Those winds could gust over 30 MPH this afternoon. The National Weather Service is also warning residents in southeast Minnesota that the wind, along with the warm temperatures and dry conditions will pose the danger of fire today.

I
thought you would want to know about this e-mail virus. Even
the
most advanced programs from Norton or McAfee cannot take
care
of this one. It appears to affect those who were born prior to
1965.
Symptoms:
1. Causes you to send the same e-mail twice. Done that!
2. Causes you to send a blank e-mail! That too!
3. Causes you to send e-mail to the wrong person. yep!
4. Causes you to send it back to the person who sent it to you. Aha!
5. Causes you to forget to attach the attachment.Well darn!
6. Causes you to hit "SEND" before you've finished. Oh , no not again!
7. Causes you to hit "DELETE" instead of "SEND.." And I just hate that!
8. Causes you to hit "SEND" when you should "DELETE." Oh No!
IT IS CALLED THE "C-NILE VIRUS."

Legend has it that Jerry Lee was a little bit drunk the night this video was made. Hell, Jerry Lee was a whole lot drunk that night but he could still put on a pretty good show!
I tried to pattern my life after Jerry Lee and, I think, I did it quite well (if I do say so myself).

GAS PRICES ARE FALLING AROUND THE COUNTRY
While the national average is $3.42, it's selling at $3.40 at Concord Oil in Rapid City, $3.39 at Kwik Trip in La Crosse and $3.16 at H-E-B in Dripping Springs.
OKTOBERFEST DRAGS ON FOR SEVERAL MORE DAYS BUT THE TWO BIGGEST DAYS ARE NOW HISTORY FOR THIS YEAR
There were, apparently, no major issues so the city survived another fest. They got through most of the parade without getting wet but showers cleared the streets quickly after the parade was over.
No rain today! Dense fog will slow traffic early this morning but the rest of the day will be sunny with a high near 71. Sounds good to me.
