Rain woke me around midnight and I couldn't get back to sleep.

The forecast calls for rain all day with pretty cool temperatures for this time of year.  The wind chill was 40 degrees at 1:00 A.M. and it was raining.  Good morning to be inside.

I KNEW IT HAD TO END

I just knew, when we had that long stretch of sunny days with temperatures hovering around 80, that the real world would come back to remind us that everything is always changing and that's especially true of the weather.

It got to Rita first and, now, it's getting to me.  I long for those sunny, warm days again..and they will return...but not for awhile.

First we have to slosh through these last traces of winter with dark clouds, chilly temperatures and rain for a few days.  At least, it won't be cold enough to snow.

Today, we won't get out of the 40's and there's a 60% chance for rain.  That's what I call a BLUE MONDAY.  Remember that song?

A COLD FRONT MOVING INTO THE TEXAS HILL COUNTRY THIS MORNING

Donnie reports: "We are still most of an hour away from dawns not-so-early-light and I heard some rain blowing against the windows.  I stuck my nose out to detect the change in the air, a definite cooling."

WEATHER

I was looking ahead and the forecast says we might get close to 50 Friday and Saturday but, I'm thinking, that's the last we'll see of weather that warm for several months.  Most days in the coming week show highs in the more seasonal range of 30's and 40's.

As they say, 'Tis the season.

BY SATURDAY WE COULD GET CLOSE TO 60 IN LA CROSSE

At 4 A.M. it was 40 in Dripping Springs.  Add the breeze and it felt like 38.  That might be a bit nippy for tea on the deck with Donnie and Linda this morning.

With the arrival of the cold front, those Texans will be frisky today.  Willard said, early this morning, "Winds have shifted to the north.  Maybe soup weather tomorrow."

Saturday, October 15, 2011

I've got chicken soup bubbling in the crockpot.

Temperatures dropped into the low 50's, this morning, as far south as Florida.  That's pretty cold for Florida this early in the season.

Monday, October 10, 2011

I'm going to make a run to K-Mart today and spend some time outside.  I'm thinking this is going to be about our last day to enjoy that "summertime feeling".

The temperatures will start falling tomorrow, we'll have rain by Wednesday and highs will only be in the 50's by Friday.

I know it's time for that sort of thing but that doesn't mean I have to like it.

RAPID CITY IS GETTING A TASTE OF THE COLD TOO

Duane said, "Wednesdays high will only be around 48 with rain!  House was chilly this morning".

THE CHILL IS ON!

Yesterdays high was 88 but, I'm guessing, it will be a long time before we see a day that warm again.  With the arrival of our first cold front of the season, today's high will be about 20 degrees cooler at 67.  Tonight's low will be around 48 and tomorrow night it will drop into the upper 30's for our coolest night in months.  The last time I mentioned cold weather, on this blog, was June 23 when I was complaining about our chilly spring.  After a couple of hot months, a little chill will feel good again.

Better hang a jacket by the door.

THE OLD FARMERS ALMANAC SAYS:
The upper midwest will see below normal temperatures from November through March with above normal snowfall in the northern sections of the area.

A NEW PHOTO AND A NOTE FROM DONNIE

We are now having to put on long-sleeves to sit on porch in a.m., at least till about 8:00.  But still no sign nor hope of rain, ever.  Thursday we took six loads of clothes to a Laundromat, to save well water at home.  Things have changed in the Laundromat business.  First, it is hard even to find one (we had to drive nearly 30 minutes).  Then, the machines no longer take coins--we had to buy a card, a complicated vending-machine operation.  And finally, of course, it is all much more expensive--almost $40 by the time we were done washing and drying.

EVEN TEXAS IS COOLER THIS MORNING

WILLARD REPORTS:
"66 degrees this morning!  It's cool enough to think about taking Buddy for a walk in the park."

Sunday, September 04, 2011

It's almost sweater weather!

I walked over to Walgreen's this morning and was sorry I just wore a T-shirt.  There was a real chill in the air early this morning.

That's OK.  Even I'm looking forward to autumn and those few flakes of snow.

Sunday, August 21, 2011

The temperature in Hayward at 4:00 A.M. was 46 degrees.

That was the coolest temperature reported in the state at 4, this morning.  I'm thinking it won't be long before we'll see some 30's pop up.

Meanwhile, the heat goes on in Texas.  At 4:00 A.M. in Austin it was still 80 degrees.

COOL WEEK AHEAD

Am I done with the A/C for the season?  I think so.  Highs will be in the 70's all next week.  The slow slide into winter has begun.

COOLER WEATHER?

I see highs in the 70's for next week.  Maybe cooler days are right around the corner.

Thursday, July 21, 2011

I was actually able to open the windows this afternoon.

The humidity was nothing like it has been the past few days and the temperatures were a lot cooler.  At 4:00, this afternoon, the temperature was only 83 with a heat index of 84.  Compared to what we have had that's, almost, chilly!!  FEELS GOOD!
