With a mind like a steel trap, I can't believe I forgot. Uncle Ed was born 104 years ago on Tuesday. I had it on the calendar but, somehow missed it. I may have missed the whole day, as far as I know.

I MISSED MY OWN ANNIVERSARY!

Rita sent me an email wishing me "Happy Anniversary" and wondering how many years I had been back in La Crosse.  I had forgotten all about it.

It was August 29, 1997 that I returned to La Crosse after a two day ride on a Greyhound Bus.  Rita and Roger met me and we went to lunch at the old Piggy's.  14 years ago.

Now, 14 years later, Greyhound is gone from La Crosse, the old Piggy's is gone (soon to be the site of the new La Crosse Community Theater) but I'm still here!  Barely hanging on but still here.  Still kickin'....but....not quite as high.

Tonight is the candlelight vigil that will mark the 34th anniversary of the death of Elvis.  The anniversary date is tomorrow.  And, yes.  I know where I was when I heard he had died.  Having a cocktail at Minervas in Sioux Falls.

FIRST SHIP THROUGH THE PANAMA CANAL

It was August 15, 1914, that the steamship Ancon made the historic first passage through the Panama Canal.  A few years after that Rita, Donnie and I made our historic first passage through the Officers Club, at the edge of the canal, to sip our rum and cokes while we watched a few more boats pass through the canal.

If I'm not mistaken, that old Officers Club is gone now.  Rita, Donnie and I are just barely hanging on and the canal has been, recently, "remodeled" and is newer and better than ever.

Rick and Angela should be celebrating today!

The only birthday or anniversary I have listed for July is Donnie's birthday on the 22nd.  With a change in computers and all my computer problems, I'm wondering if I lost some events along the way.  If you know of anything else coming up in July let me know.

With all these computer problems I keep having, I just noticed that the last crash totally did away with my birthday and anniversary list beginning with July.  If you have a birthday or anniversary, or know someone who is having such a thing next month, please let me know.

CELEBRATIONS

Since I've been gone Bob and Lynne had an anniversary yesterday and Renee is having a birthday today.  Sorry I missed them, this year, but hope you had a good time.
