We don't really know how big the Universe is because we've never seen the end of it. And, we never will. But, the discovery of an earth size planet circling Alpha Centauri means there's a planet, outside our solar system, that's just 4.3 light-years away. That's like our next door neighbor.
Could we ever go there? Probably not. 4.3 light-years doesn't sound that far but, if we launched a rocket today, and set it on a course to the newly discovered planet, we would have to wait 40,000 years for the probe to reach it! Even I won't live that long.
