Record Highs Likely Today...More Winter-Like By Thursday
Near-record temperatures were seen across the Upper Midwest Monday, and at the Rochester, MN airport, the 46 degree high tied the previous record from 2002. Even warmer temperatures are expected today, with highs forecast to top out from the upper 40s to mid 50s. This is all in response to increasing southwesterly winds, a lack of snow cover, and abundant sunshine. The forecasted highs are 20 to 25 degrees above normal for this time in January. Plan on a cold front to cross the region Wednesday, ending our recent warm spell, as well as bringing some minor snow accumulations for Wednesday night and Thursday in its wake. On Thursday, look for highs to only top out between 15 and 20.
