DONNIES LATEST PROBLEM
"Even when we finally do get rain, it is not entirely a blessing.
Willard reported the flooding in Houston. Here in Dripping Springs there's another nuisance. Because it rains so rarely, country people living "on acreage" accumulate great piles of brush, which we are prohibited from burning because of dry forest conditions. When it rains the burn-bans are lifted, and the many bonfires fill the air with smoke and ash.
A large ranch west of us looked like the portals of hell yesterday morning, with numerous great mounds of red and yellow flames blazing 50 feet into the wet, gray skies. It was literally "snowing" ash when I left the house, coating cars and houses and yards and porches. Linda suggested we throw some lye out on the lawn and make soap!
