LET'S TALK BEANS

There's so much to talk about, when it comes to beans, where does one begin?

Did you know that the folks in North Dakota grow more beans than any state in the country.

And, get this.  Beans are high in protein, they have no fat and more fiber than most other whole grain foods.

The doctors say beans may reduce the risk of heart disease and some cancers.  They're high in fiber, protein, calcium, iron, folic acid and potassium.

Ahhh, there you go.  That nasty potassium.  While potassium is good stuff for you, it's pure poison for folks with failing kidneys so beans are a big NO-NO for me.

Why?  You need to take potassium into your body and quickly pass out of your body all the excess potassium you can't use.  The kidneys take care of getting rid of that potassium.  If they'e failing the excess stays in your body and settles in your bones and makes them as breakable as fine glassware.  And, with my talent for falling down (ice or no ice), brittle bones are the last thing I need.
