Terrible storm in eastern South Dakota.

I suppose I should have gone out today because tomorrow will be a good "stay home" day.

I played couch potato today and spent the entire afternoon watching the westerns.  That's my weekend treat!

Cooler and wetter weather is on the way for tomorrow.
Graphical depiction of the weather story for today.

This was a sad sight to see when I went out this morning.

All the trees that lined the sidewalk along the street were cut down.  I'm guessing they had whatever tree disease it is that has affected so many trees around the city.

These trees had such beautiful white flowers that bloomed first thing in the spring.  I'll miss that.

Packer Camp

No doubt about it. This is a cat with an attitude.

Hot car + golf balls = BIG BANG!!

The overnight hours were nice and warm all over Wisconsin.

The coolest city I could find was Watertown with 58 degrees.

Where's the best place to be to celebrate the Day of the American Cowboy?

You might want to be in Bandera, Texas which is the Cowboy Capital of the World or, at least, that's what they claim.

The Frontier Times Museum hosts the two day celebration with rodeo events, mock gunfights and Barbecue.  And, they have seven saloons in town to quench your thirst!

Where is Bandera, you ask?  It's just down the road from Donnie and Linda's place on your way to San Antonio where they have, even, MORE than seven saloons!
Gundersen's annual Wellness Fest will be held, today, at the La Crosse Center from 9am to 1pm.

It should have been yesterday when I was sniffing and sneezing and I couldn't hear anything because my ears were all plugged up.

Rita offered me an antihistamine but, being a true Solberg, I declined.  You have to have something to suffer over and bitch about all day.

This morning I woke up and it was all gone.  I'm breathing and hearing again.  I'm sure, however, before the day is done I'll develop another ache or pain somewhere.

It seems like once I hit 70 I started having, at least, one ailment every day.  Most of them you won't find in any of the medical books.

No matter how old you get you gotta keep on rockin'!!!

What a cutie!

Good one from Carl.

If you saw this sign in a store, would you leave or stay? *** Share if you'd stay***

Lousy weather today but it's lookin' good tomrrow. Maybe I'll take a walk to the park.

Graphical depiction of the weather story for today.

What's this all about?

Donnie is a Starbucks fan but I'll bet he hasn't been to this one.

I can see this is not a sport for senior citizens.

We still have the memories.

We're celebrating "A Chorus Line" which opened on Broadway on July 25, 1975, 39 years ago today. It went on to become the longest running show ever performed on Broadway.

Rita and I really enjoyed the show when we saw the La Crosse theater group performance at the new Weber Center for the Arts in downtown La Crosse.

Happy Merry Go Round Day! I'll bet you didn't know that the Merry-Go-Round was invented in Iowa, did you?

90% chance for thunderstorms today.

It will be here before we know it. Wish I could be with you all!!

This is a neat photo from the air.

The roughest take-off I ever experienced was out of Denver.  The turbulence was so bad that after we leveled off and things returned to normal the Captain announced that all "beverages" would be FREE on our trip to Las Vegas.  Even the little old ladies took advantage of the offer!

Those Mountains, around the city, make for some tricky air currents.

FIRE!!

There's never a dull moment!  About 10:10, this evening, I heard shouting down in the parking lot.  Some guy yelling "Diesel fuel in back, diesel fuel in back!!!"  I could hear sirens approaching and decided I'd best get up and check.

I flew to the window and saw the dumpster engulfed in flames and, indeed, the big diesel fuel tank is right beside it, all right below my apartment.  Two fire trucks arrived in the alley and started dousing the blaze with water.

It took, what seemed like, forever to get it out but they did and they're still down there making sure it's completely out.

That should keep me awake for a while.  The fire plus a stuffed up head from allergies might make for a "sleepless in La Crosse" night!

So, what do you think about this?

Our world sure ain't what it used to be.

A six car pile-up on I-90 near La Crosse just before 8 this morning.

One person was killed plus there were several injuries including one that was life threatening.

Is it poop or is it NOT poop???

Who gives a.........

I wonder if this guy plans to be in Sturgis?? This is the goofiest thing I've seen today.

Spelling was not his best subject.

I'm finding this very hard to believe but don't know enough about faking videos to know for sure. Still, it's makes a "fun" thing to watch!

Some more rain on the way.

Krazy Days starts today in downtown La Crosse.

Lot's of good bargains right on the sidewalk!  And, there's a cookout in the parking lot at Peoples Co-op.  There will be lots of folks in town today!

A sign for Whitstran Brewery reads.....

BEER: So much more than just a breakfast drink.

He's gonna be sore in the morning.

They say this is the fastest costume change in the world.

It might be good to hang this on the wall.

Let's all send a card.

Well, what do you know? I succeeded!

Go for it!!

July 1966. The Mamas and Papas were in the top 10 with this song.

Is there anyone, besides me, that has made it all the way to the top of Harney Peak?

Ah, yes.  It was "no sweat" in my youth.  I'm afraid it would be "big time sweat" in my "advanced" age!

A couple of masterpiece's.

Note to Lynne:

The last car that Elvis bought was a 1976 Cadillac Seville which will be auctioned off on August 14 at Graceland.  I'll bet it will go for a hunk a hunk of pocket change!

How could you NOT love a face like this?

In case you didn't see it, this is the radar scan of the Mayfly invasion the other night.

I think I'd better get out and enjoy some of this beautiful wather today!

OK! You think you know everything. They can't fool you. Think again, Houdini.

Does the name Tony Joe White mean anything to you?

If you don't recall his name you'll recall the songs he wrote.  There were too many to mention them all but Rainy Night in Georgia comes to mind.  He wrote that one.

He's, probably, best known for a song he wrote called Polk Salad Annie.  I'm sure Lynne remembers that Elvis did a great job on that song.  A lot of other artists sang it too.

This is my favorite version.  It's done by Tony Joe and Johnny Cash and we'll play it today because this is Tony Joe's 71st birthday today.

Happy Birthday Tony!!

An early morning thought......

Happy Birthday to Gloria DeHaven. She celebrates her 89th year today!

We could take a lesson from the wolf.

We're celebrating two big holidays today. It's Cousins Day and Gorgeous Grandma Day!

I walked the mile to Festival this morning.

I was sweating when I got there but I got my exercise in.  It was just a one way walk.  I rode the bus back home.

Walk a mile, ride a mile then sit in the rocker until bed time.

Ain't retirement grand?

You dog lovers will understand.

Life along the Mississippi.....

The roofers are on the job, again, this morning.

They took most of the afternoon off,
yesterday.  I'm guessing it was too hot "up on the roof".  I won't be surprised if they knock off early, again, today.

Today is a "downer" for some folks.

McDonald's shares are down 2% pre-market and Coke quarterly profit is down 3%.

Another hot one.

We'll still be close to 90, this afternoon, in La Crosse, but there's relief ahead.  Tomorrows highs will be about 10 degrees cooler.

The hottest July 22, ever, in La Crosse was 102 in 1934.

Guess who else is celebrating a birthday.

Bobby Sherman is 71 today.

And, what do you suppose Eric and Aaron have in common with Bobby Sherman.  Well....we know it sure as hell isn't a great singing voice so it must be something else.

The "something else" is that, after his great singing career, Bobby became an Emergency Medical Technician for the Los Angeles Police Department.

He rose to the rank of Captain.  He is still a technical reserve officer with the Los Angeles Police Department and he founded the Bobby Sherman volunteer EMT Foundation which coordinates medical services for community events in Southern California.

Weird Al Yankovic may be weird but he's smart enough to teach you kids some english.

There's a new scam making the rounds in Wisconsin. There's always someone out there waiting to "take you to the cleaners".

Coming soon you'll have another reason to stop in La Crosse.

We're getting a new, and improved, rest stop out on I-90.  It should be open for business by July of 2016.

That's two years away!  I was just thinking, when I was a kid 2 years was like an eternity.  I wondered if I could wait that long.  Now I've gotten to the age where two years is like closer to eternity and I wonder if I'll LIVE that long!

It's a BIG change for the "little airline that could".

Southwest Airlines started off as a little company serving about 3 cities in Texas.  From there it grew to provide service coast to coast.  Today SOUTHWEST GOES INTERNATIONAL!

Service to Aruba and Montego Bay will begin today from Atlanta, Baltimore and Orlando.  Coming soon will be flights to the Bahamas and Mexico from Milwaukee, Denver and Orange County, California.

It was still 80 when I got up at 3 this morning. It didn't cool off much last night.

LET'S MEET THE BABY!

Gotta have it!!

YOU'VE GOT TO UNDERSTAND "CAT ATTITUDE" TO UNDERSTAND HOW FUNNY THIS IS.

You can have your Generals, Presidents, Teachers and all that crap.

THIS IS A PERSON
I CAN REALLY
LOOK UP TO.

GUESS WHO'S HAVING A BIRTHDAY TODAY!

Favre fans....did you see this?

It's a small world. One minute he's Donnie and Linda's neighbor and the next minute he shows up in Sturgis!

Warm enough for you??

We had a huge hatch of Mayflies last night. They, pretty much, covered the downtown area.

Josh and I are on the same wave length.

THE LATEST WEATHER UPDATE

THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE POSSIBLE AFTER MIDNIGHT FOR LOCATIONS ALONG AND NORTH OF INTERSTATE 90.

SOME OF THESE STORMS COULD BE STRONG TO SEVERE WITH DAMAGING WINDS AND HEAVY RAINS THE MAIN THREATS. SOME LARGE HAIL COULD ALSO OCCUR.

Yes! I love you too.

The last trick is the best card trick I've ever seen.

6:23 A.M. : THE ROOFERS HAVE ARRIVED TO BEGIN ANOTHER WEEK OF ROOFING.

Those boys are going to get mighty hot up on that roof today.  If they're smart they'll quit early.

Happy Birthday to one of my most favorite song writers/singers ever.

Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens) celebrates his 66th birthday today.

Here's a hot report from the National Weather Service.

Highs will top out from the mid 80s across eastern Wisconsin to the lower 90's over much of Minnesota.  Add a very humid air mass and heat indices will make it feel about 10 degrees warmer.

A Thunderstorm complex is expected to explode across the Northern Plains late this afternoon, tracking across the upper Mississippi Valley late tonight.

Strong to severe thunderstorms are likely over central and northern Minnesota..

STAY COOL

It's a HEAT WAVE baby!!

OK guys, you think your wife talks too much? Just be glad you don't have to come home to this.

So, you think you're a good driver, huh??

THIS
BAD-ASS
COULD DRIVE
CIRCLES AROUND YOU!

Let's face it. Baby farts are just too funny.

Ain't it the truth?

I just found out it's LOLLIPOP DAY!

And how many of you knew that the Chordettes came from Sheboygan, Wisconsin.  They became a national hit when they won first prize on Aruthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts.

Some REAL summer on the way.

The National Weather Service says:
Temperatures will approach 90 degrees Monday and Tuesday. Add in a humid air mass and it will feel more like the mid 90s to near 100 degrees. Be sure to take precautions if planning outdoor activities.

Cats and Dogs: It's love at first sight. These are the most beautiful pictures I've ever seen.

"Here are some pictures taken Thursday when the girls met Belle.

We knew, immediately, there wouldn't be any problem with Belle.  She absolutely loves those kittens.

Now that Belle has met the kittens, she sits outside their door anxiously waiting until we let her in to see them."

I was looking at Google maps this morning.

Interesting to note that three of my most common destinations, Riverside Park, Gundersen Clinic and Festival, are just over a mile, each way, from my apartment.
THE HOTTEST IT'S EVER BEEN
IN LA CROSSE
ON JULY 20
WAS 103
IN 1901

Have you ever thought about how little you listen to other people or really see what you're looking at?

It's a great Lake Superior celebration this weekend but not so much around Duluth.

NO WATER CONTACT signs are posted at LAKEWALK BEACH AT DULUTH.

High e.coli levels were recorded there on Friday.  They plan to re-test the lake tomorrow.

So sorry to hear about James Garner this morning.

The National Weather Service says temperatures will be  OVER 100  from  Southern South Dakota to western Kansas today.

Meet the baby!

Good for Iowa!!

It looks like we're going to get some REAL summer weather this week!!

Today we celebrate the first landing on the moon. I was camping with friends in the Black Hills of South Dakota that day. Where were you?

Kathy will throw a fit if I don't mention that this is Lake Superior Day.
