WARM WEATHER NEWS FROM THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE

Expect the well above normal conditions, with temperatures approaching or breaking record highs, to become the norm for awhile as the weather pattern changes to one more similar of mid May.

The coolest day over the next 7 days will be Monday, due to clouds and some showers around the region associated with a low pressure system. After that, Tuesday through Saturday are forecast each day to reach the upper 60s to lower 70s, and even some mid 70s readings are possible.

These readings will approach or break record highs each day.

SOUNDS LIKE THE BLACK HILLS IS PRETTY DRY TOO

DUANE REPORTS:
"Fire burned M Hill yesterday.  Another fire in Black Hawk burned out two buildings.  There were several prairie grass fires.

Fire truck sirens were blaring and helicopters filling the sky like crazy."

THERE'S MORE DRAMA IN THIS THAN ANY MOVIE MADE ALL YEAR

SPRING FEVER....HERE I COME!

I made a run over to the Co-op.  The time and temp sign on Cass said 55 degrees!  This would be a really beautiful day if the wind wasn't blowing so hard.

WET DOG STORY FROM WILLARD

"I took Buddy out for a walk.  It had stopped raining but, of course, it started to drizzle when we got out there.  When we got back I toweled him off , as best I could, and gave him breakfast.  And...so it goes."

"And so it goes" made me think of Linda Ellerbie so I looked her up on Wikipedia.  I didn't know she was from Texas.  We went to the same high school in Houston.  Lamar High.  Yeah Redskins!"

DONNIE AND LINDA ARE CACTUS FARMING

"God has squeezed another inch of rain out of the heavens for us, and so far in 2012 we are above average for precipitation.

I don't know what we have done to deserve this (unless it was dragging Rick Perry back home and sparing the rest of the land), but I am pushing our luck, and spending hundreds of dollars on sod for our lawn, which will require ample start-up moisture at least for a couple more months.

We also bought stones and soil and bricks for a cactus bed Linda as been building, for years. All told, we will have spent several thousand dollars--for rocks and dirt."

WHERE ARE THE NEW "HOT SPOTS" FOR TRAVEL?

HEAD EAST, YOUNG MAN
An article in Reuters quotes a UN official who says "The whole world is skewed to the East.  This is the new world."

China is expected to see 100 million arrivals by 2020.

SOUTH TEXAS GETTING NASTY WEATHER

WILLARD REPORTS

"Up at 4:45 with light rain.  I'll, probably, stay in.  Lightening struck FOUR inbound flights yesterday!"

----------------

Have you ever been on a flight that was struck by lightening?  I was, on a flight to Denver and, believe me, it will make you sit up and take notice!

THE CLUSTER MAP

You've probably noticed the little map, on the sidebar, that shows where blog viewers are coming from.  You'll notice some of the dots are yellow, some flashing.  Those dots represent viewers now or in the past few minutes.

WEATHER WARNING

SOUTHWEST WINDS WILL BE IN THE 15 TO 25 MPH RANGE TODAY WITH GUSTS RANGING FROM 30 TO 40 MPH. THE COMBINATION OF THESE WINDS ALONG WITH LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITIES WILL RESULT IN POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS THIS AFTERNOON.

THE OTHER SIDE OF THE KONY STORY

det said...
As a good journalist (blogist) you have given two sides of a story, without pronouncing your own opinion. You may be the last good broadcaster out there!

I GOT THE ULTRASOUND OUT OF THE WAY

Everyone was glad to see me again.  If it wasn't for the clinic I wouldn't have any social life at all.  Now, a very quiet weekend before the colonoscopy on Monday.

RITA IS RESTING

She, indeed, has an infection.  The doctor has her on penicillin and she's laid out of the sofa waiting for the swelling to go down.

TOO COLD FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR

There's a bright sun, out there, but there's also a wind chill of 18 degrees.  I nearly froze when I went to the grocery store this morning.

More wind is forecast for tomorrow but the high is expected to hit 62.  I guess that's just typical March weather.

CHEAP AIRFARES? NOT ANYTIME SOON

The passenger load keeps growing every year but the seat capacity keeps declining so high fares are here to stay...for now.

MAYFLY MADNESS IN VEGAS

I don't know what part of Las Vegas BILL AND BONNY live in but I see the folks in north Vegas are really upset about what a new waste water treatment plant is doing to their neighborhood.

They say they've now got bats and mayflies and the mayflies smell like a wet dog and are hard to get rid of.

Tell us about it.  There may be more excitement in Las Vegas than there is in La Crosse but I guarantee you'll see a few million more mayflies in La Crosse than you have in Las Vegas.  And you can multiply the smell a million times too!

WISCONSIN: WE LOVE OUR DAIRY

REMEMBER HIM?

KATO KAELIN is 53 today.  He was born in MILWAUKEE and attended college at UW-EAU CLAIRE although he never finished.  He's best known for his involvement in the O. J. SIMPSON TRIAL.  He still pops up on a tv show, now and then.

WE'RE ALL GETTING OLD

I WANT TO BE THE HOST

Tony Vicich runs a comedy school in Phoenix.  Love this line he had on Twitter this morning.

"I've got a new idea for a game show.  It's called, "TOUCH IT OR SMELL IT".

THIS COMES FROM CARL

While I sat in the reception area of my doctor's office, a woman rolled an elderly man in a wheelchair into the room. As she went to the receptionist's desk, the man sat there, alone and silent.

Just as I was thinking I should make small talk with him, a little boy slipped off his mother's lap and walked over to the wheelchair. Placing his hand on the man's, he said, "I know how you feel. My Mom makes me ride in the stroller too."

If you aren't traveling to South Dakota...why not?

I HOPE THIS IS THE LAST COLD FRONT

With winds gusting to 35 MPH and the 1:00 PM temperature at 35 we end up with a wind chill of 25 this afternoon.  Too cold for my blood but the good thing about this time of year is that we'll quickly bounce back to warmer temperatures.  Saturday and Monday we'll see highs around 60 again with Sunday highs at 50.

THIS IS TONTO??

"THE LONE RANGER" movie is back in production and is scheduled to make it to the theaters next spring.

JOHNNY DEPP plays TONTO and, I'm sure, he'll play it beautifully but it sure ain't the Tonto I remember.

The first picture of the LONE RANGER and Tonto in their costumes is on the HOLLYWOOD REPORTER web page this morning.  Click here to see the picture and tell me what you think of the "new" Tonto.

YOU WIN SOME...YOU LOSE SOME

I thought I was just about done with the doctors until fall but one of the very last tests they did was not such a positive finish.

They found red cells in my urine which is not such a good thing.  I have to make appointments, today, for a bladder scope and a kidney ultrasound.

Wish me luck!

STOP KONY

ALL GOOD NEWS

The kidney guy says I'm good to go for another six months.  All the tests are now done until fall.

Just one more doctor to go.  I need to see the dermatologist for the dry skin.  It's caused by the diminishing kidney function and, he says, over the counter moisturizers won't do any good.  I'll have to use a prescription formula which should fix me up.

I'm still at stage 3 and he gave me high praise for hanging in there with the diet.  It's working!

HOT DOGS IN THE WINDY CITY

Remember when Donnie sent me those two T-Shirts from HOT DOUGS hot dog place in Chicago?  I see, on the WBBM website, this morning, they have an article on the five best places to get hot dogs in the city (Read the article here.) Hot Dougs is right up there with the best of them!  With a name like Dougs, they gotta be good.

ONE MORE MORNING AT THE CLINIC

This is the big day that I see my KIDNEY DOCTOR.  Keep your fingers crossed that it's all good news like it was Monday.  This should be my last visit with the doctors for another six months.

Before I head to the clinic, RITA will be stopping over to drop off the coupons from the Sunday paper.  She's got to be in town, early, for a DENTIST appointment.  The Mississippi recently got a new bridge so she's going to get one too.

WELL, WE'VE CHANGED THE LOOK AGAIN

I'm hoping this will be the last time!

Because of a problem in windows that I'm not smart enough to fix, the other format we were using was dropping items from display.  Beyond that, it gets too complicated to explain but this should solve the problem.

All's well that ends well.

WE'VE COME A LONG WAY BABY

A FASCINATING ITEM FROM ROGER

DON'T TELL ME SPRING HASN'T SPRUNG

I just got back from Walgreen's and look what I spotted on the south side of the convent as I was walking by.

I had my parka on but I had to take it off and carry it about half the way home.  Too warm with it on.  I'm loving it!!

HOW'S THIS FOR AN OLD MAN

Besides doing all the doctor things, yesterday, I managed to walk FOUR MILES!  And, we're talking a BRISK walk.

I can still do it but, believe me, I was in bed VERY EARLY last night.  By 5 o'clock I was already nodding off in my rocker.

IT'S CHEESEHEAD DAY IN WISCONSIN

YESTERDAY IS GONE~YESTERDAY'S STUFF IS JUNK

DONNIE LAMENTS (AGAIN)
It's burdensom enough to own all this stuff and harder, yet, to get rid of it.

We are too far out in the woods to have a garage sale.  I've tried to sell folk art, with very limited success.  My photos, which occupy a lot of space, I can't even give away.

I loaded a heavy, but perfectly good, TV into the car and took it to the local thrift shop.  "We don't take TV's", I was told, "can't sell 'em."

One day, I guess, we'll just walk away from it all, leaving it to nature."

WHAT A GREAT SHOT FROM LYNNE!

"I couldn't get the camcorder turned on quick enough to film the fox in our backyard.  He ran into the woods and, at least, stayed close enough to film a minute of him moving through.  This photo is from the movie frame."

IT'S JUST ONE CRISIS AFTER THE OTHER

With all the medical appointments I had this morning I didn't get to Festival so I have now run out of paper towels.  This has, pretty much, put my life on hold until I can get to the store in the morning.

How the pioneers were able to drive their wagons thousands of miles across the great plains, for months, without paper towels is just more than I can imagine.  I'm not sure I can survive the night without them.

BACK FROM MY MORNING ROUNDS AT THE CLINIC

According to the lab work and consultations with the doctors, I will live forever.  Results of the blood work looked very good and several critical tests actually showed improvement over the past six months.  In other words I'm like a fine bottle of wine, I'm improving with age.  Just call me Mogan David.

I still have the appointment with the kidney doctor on Wednesday, and that's the big one, but results from those tests were also coming in and they all looked good so I should be good to go for another six months.
detMar 5, 2012 11:31 AM
You are good for another six YEARS, at least. I'll say it again: You will outlive me...but then, I'm ready to go now.

PAUL SAW THE PICTURE OF FRIEND AND MICHELLE AND WROTE DONNIE

"Tell him to keep his feet off the table!"

DONNIE REPLIED

"Funny you would notice the feet thing.  You sound like a parent.

It does remind me of a coincidental U.S. Army experience of my own.  I was in language training at the Presidio of Monterrey.  I was off duty, in the the barracks lounge, reading a book.

I was stretched out in a chair, my feet on the coffee table.  An officer walked in and barked, "Terpstra, get your feet off that table.  Do you do that at home?"  I sheepishly said, "No, Sir" and obeyed the order.

But, of course, I lied.  Yes, I did put my feet up at home--that's what homes are for--but not in the army."

And the "feet thing" reminded me of FUNNY FEET  from the 1980's.  Wonder if they still make them?

OK...NOW I REALLY DO FEEL LIKE A LOSER

Did you read the story about the 70 YEAR OLD MAN, FROM JAPAN, THAT HAS QUALIFIED FOR THE LONDON OLYMPICS?

I think old people do things like that just to make me look bad.

Mr. Hoketsu qualified by winning the International Dressage meet in France last week.

Well, there you go.  All he did was sit on a horse.  I could sit on a horse.  My problem would be that I can't GET on a horse.

YOU'VE HEARD THOSE "DUMB BLONDE" JOKES?

I suppose that's "discrimination" to some people, but, then you look at this and it makes you wonder.....

This is why I don't watch television.

I DON'T KNOW WHO SAID IT BUT I SURE LIKE THIS ONE

"Normal is nothing more than a cycle on your washing machine".

A TOUCH OF SPRING THIS WEEK

I think I'm coming down with spring fever.  Temperatures won't get out of the 30's today but tomorrow the high should get pretty close to 60.  If the weather man is right about that (and, he'd better be) that would be the warmest it's been, in La Crosse, since November 15 when we had a high of 57 degrees.

CLINIC DAY

Two doctor appointments and one lab appointment should keep me at the clinic for most of the morning.  A "day off" tomorrow and then back to the clinic on Wednesday.  A fun week!

"Dark Water" is rather more elegant than, say, DACRE, English, from a surname which was originally derived from a place name in Cumbria, of Brythonic origin meaning "trickling stream."

LYNNE'S SNOW REPORT

"We had a snowy day on Friday.  The snow stuck to all the branches.  Tree trunks were so thick we couldn't see any neighbors homes at all.  It was beautiful, especially since I didn't have to go out in it.  We had about 4-5 inches."
