REMEMBER PEARL HARBOR DAY

If you're planning on buying me toys, I hope you're shopping early.  I just read that the stores, fearing more budget minded shoppers this year, haven't stocked their toy departments like they did in previous years.  Some stores are, actually, running out of stock already.  I hope the fat man, with the reindeer, planned ahead for this.

LOOK AT THIS FROM MONTANA:

We'll have to go a long way to get warm today.

IT'S TOO DAMN COLD IN WISCONSIN!

I MISSED THE HOLIDAY TRAIN LAST NIGHT  I never have seen it but I'd sure like to.

WXOW News 19 La Crosse, WI – News, Weather and Sports |
78 in Key West this morning.  That sounds so good right now.

I walked over to the library.  They said it was cold but I had to see for myself.  They're right.  It's cold.  6 above but it feels like 11 below.

There's grim news for the days ahead too.

This is the latest from the National Weather service.

THE COMBINATION OF COLD AIR AND BRISK WINDS WILL CREATE WIND
CHILLS FROM 10 TO 20 BELOW ZERO THIS MORNING AND AGAIN TONIGHT.

EXPECT WIND CHILLS IN THE 10 TO 20 BELOW ZERO RANGE SATURDAY
MORNING.

PLAN ON 2 TO 4 INCHES OF FLUFFY SNOW ACCUMULATION SUNDAY INTO
SUNDAY NIGHT. DRIVING WILL BE IMPACTED.

That should tell you not to plan on much outdoor activity for the weekend.

Here's a winter scene from Texas this morning.

We're running late today.   There was no internet when I got up this morning and I just got back on line.

This happens every few months.  I have a feeling it's down for maintenance, or something, because if I patiently wait long enough it comes back up again.

Charter, as usual, is doing a good job.

Cats have become a hot item on the internet these days and one lady is cashing in on the trend.  CLICK HERE to check out the men's dress shirts that she's enhanced with some great looking cats peeking out of the shirt pocket.

Check out the price, while you're at it.  Kitty shirts don't come cheap!!
I've never heard of people eating cannibal sandwiches around here but it's, apparently, a big deal in Milwaukee where people end up getting sick every year.   READ THE STORY HERE FROM THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

I said I was going to make a crockpot full of vegetable beef soup first thing this morning and that's exactly what I did.  Just what the doctor ordered for a bitter cold day.

R.I.P. NELSON MANDELA

They say our wind chill values will be around 12 below tonight and all day tomorrow.  First thing, in the morning, I'm going to get the crockpot going with home made soup and I'll curl up in my big easy chair and spend the day at home.

It was 78 in Edinburg at 4:00 PM. I should have stayed there.

Back from the clinic and all is wellMy blood work showed some amazingly good numbers this morning.  Every time I go I keep asking myself, "how long can this go on"?

One of these days, one would think, the tests will show there's, actually, something wrong with me.  In the meantime I have to ask why am I spending so much time with the doctors if I'm in such good shape?
My favorite tweet of the morning:

 HAPPY BIRTHDAY
LITTLE RICHARD
81 TODAY!

SAFE AT LAST
SAFE AT LAST!

THIS WAS A GREAT DAY FOR 3RD STREET!

Old Man Winter isn't fooling around anymore.  The seriously cold weather is here.  This is the latest advisory from the National Weather Service.

"WIND CHILLS THURSDAY NIGHT WILL RANGE FROM 5 TO 25 BELOW. THESE COLD WIND CHILLS WILL PERSIST THROUGH SATURDAY MORNING."

They're already getting those cold wind chills out west.  AT 2:00, this morning, the wind chill was 20 below in Rapid City.

This is a really, really frightening picture.  He can't swim a stroke.  The only way he goes in the water is down.  What is he doing in this floating balloon?
Have you read the book "Old Man and the Sea"?  This is from the movie.

CRAZY WEATHER EVERYWHERE

Snow emergencies have been declared for Minneapolis and St. Paul.

Rapid City had a wind chill of 15 below at 2:00 P.M.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO CHRIS HILLMAN one of the original members of The Byrds.  Chris turns 69 today.

Time Magazine says on-line tracking my not be all that bad for you.  CLICK HERE TO READ THE ARTICLE
Duane is not, at all, happy with the weather in Rapid City this morning.

"Snow, cold, sib-zero temps.  Damn wind too."

And Donnie reports the crazy weather continues in Texas.  "High today 84.  High tomorrow 34."

So far, the snow and freezing rain is tracking to the north of La Crosse which is just fine with me.  Light snow is falling at Minneapolis/St. Paul this morning.

The National Weather Service says 2 to 4 inches of snow will fall north of Highway 29.  1 to 2 inches can be expected south of the highway.

I see, by the old calendar, that today is COOKIE DAY which reminds me of a joke......
One day, a blind man and his dog are walking down a street, they come to a busy intersection, and the dog, ignoring the high volume of traffic zooming by on the street, leads the blind man out into the thick of traffic. This is followed by the screech of tires and horns blaring as panicked drivers try desperately not to run the pair down.

The blind man and his dog finally reach the safety of the sidewalk on the other side of the street, and the blind man pulls a cookie out of his coat pocket, and offers it to the dog.

A passerby, having observed the near fatal incident, can't control his amazement and says to the blind man, "Why on earth are you rewarding your dog with a cookie? He nearly got you killed!"

The blind man turns partially in his direction and replies, "To find out where his head is, so I can kick his ass."

It was 34 degrees, outside, when I got up this morning.  The forecast calls for light rain most of the day.  I was going to complain until I looked at conditions in Rapid City and Worland.  I think I'll take the rain and above freezing temperatures.

At 3 AM Rapid City was at 8 degrees and Worland had 11.

Rita and Roger got a new tree this year.  There's nothing like getting the tree up and decorated.

You know that silly touch pad they put on these damn computers that you can use in place of a mouse?  I've watched kids use it and it works fine.  I've tried it and couldn't make the damn thing work if my life depended on it.

Anyway, I tend to rest my hand on that stupid pad while I'm typing and it sends the cursor off in all sorts of crazy directions.  Sometimes it sends me to a whole new page.

I'm thinking there has got to be a way to disable said touch pad  but, so far, I haven't been able to find any place where you could do that.

Nowadays, God forbid that a company would lower themselves to include an instruction book with the junk they sell.  They got their money.  Screw the customer.  Let them figure out how to use the product as best they can.

If anyone has any idea how I can kill the touchpad, without destroying the whole computer, let me know.  I'd rather just get rid of the touchpad now.  I'll destroy the whole computer later.
Old radio guys never die, they just tune out.  That's why I have to quote some statistics that might surprise you.

Facebook has 198 million users, per month, in the USA.  Twitter has 49 million users, per month, in the usa.

Radio has 241.8 million listeners per week, not per month, PER WEEK.  So stick that up your website you internet guys!

Would you believe we have a DRIVE-THRU CHRISTMAS TREE SHOP in La Crosse?  This is what it has come to.

In the old days, one of the highlights of the year was taking the whole family into the woods to cut down a tree for Christmas.  Now, we've gotten so lazy, and spoiled, we don't want to even get out of the car to get the tree.

What if, all of a sudden, Santa decided he didn't want to get out of the sleigh anymore?  You'd have to crawl up the chimney, get out on the roof, and grab your present out of Santa's back seat.

Christmas ain't what it used to be.

Thomas Jefferson said it: "We never repent of eating too little."

IN CASE YOU MISSED YESTERDAY........

Having worked in customer service for a good many years, I can fully agree with this.

And, they wonder why the U.S. Government is going broke?

I just read that there's an $8 million program that's being used to drop mice..by the thousands...out of airplanes...over Guam so that the mice can kill off the brown tree snakes which are trying to kill off the birds on the island.

Sunday they dropped 2,000 mice, fitted with cardboard parachutes, over the island and by the time the little guys hit the ground they were all dead.

I'm not making this up, folks.

You know what?  I think the Congress is a much bigger threat to the United States than the terrorists ever thought of being.

Snow, sleet, and a little freezing rain around Sioux Falls this morning. More of this ahead... #sdwx #kelowx pic.twitter.com/wIc7CEzbxm

Oh, the weather out west is frightful.  I know Rick and Angela have plenty of warm clothes and they're going to need them.  Temperatures will get down to 5 below in Worland tonight and 17 below tomorrow night.

Rapid City will see light snow all day with blowing snow late this afternoon and into tonight.

What do La Crosse and Dubai have in common?  We both have fog this morning and our fog looks just like their fog.

And, what are you going to do today?

The weather is lousy in the Texas hill country too.  Donnie reports:

"Another blast of cold weather late this week.  Arctic air will enter the region on Thursday and usher in a period of much below normal temperatures through mid-month.

The upcoming weekend will be cold and wet.  There's a good chance of rain mixed with freezing rain.

The cold weather safety revolves around the four "P" (s); people, pets, plants and pipes.  In short, people and pets should stay indoors

While the cold outbreak will be of long duration it shouldn't be bad enough to cause pipe bursts but this would be a good time to remove water from hoses and irrigation systems."

Hey, did you know that Illinois became a state on December 3, 1818 and the first neon lights were turned on at the Paris Motor Show on December 3, 1910.

ALLEY LA CROSSE

HOW DO THEY DO THIS STUFF?

I see JAYE P. MORGAN is celebrating her 82nd birthday today.  Only us old guys would remember her.

She was, actually, a pretty good singer but when I hear her name I always think of THE GONG SHOW .  Remember The Gong Show?  J. P. was on the panel of judges.

I suppose you had to have a quirky sense of humor to enjoy The Gong Show.  I must have been really quirky because I loved that show.

The Skyrockers are shooting off a few fireworks from atop Grandad Bluff almost every night in December, working their way to the big display on New Years Eve.  Here's the story from WXOW

GIVE A DOG A HOME FOR CHRISTMAS

A Thanksgiving report from Lynne
"Our Thanksgiving was wonderful.  We had Daniel, Jon, Derrick, Jennifer, Sandy and Jennifer's dad, Herman.  We had enough food for sure!

Daniel and Jon had to go back in the evening as Jon had to work on Friday.  The rest of us, except Herman, visited Mom Blair.  Nice we could be with her on Dad Blair's birthday.

She was really thrilled.  We surprised her with tacos.  I brought my ingredients and Derrick and Jennifer brought their toaster oven to heat the meat and shells in the bird room.  Mom ate two tacos.

We spent about 3 1/2 hours with her so I'm sure she napped after we left."

One of the things I loved about living in Rapid City were those suddenly warm days in the middle of the winter.  They have those wonderful Chinook Winds that give you a break from the cold weather.  Both Rapid City and Worland will have a day like that today.  Worland will see a high of 53 this afternoon and Rapid City will get up to 56.  That sure beats our puny 38 high in La Crosse.

60% CHANCE FOR
RAIN AND SHOW
IN LA CROSSE
THIS AFTERNOON

AIRLINE TIP: If you want to know about a particular flight you can simply Google the flight number (like UNITED 450) and it will give you the status of the flight.

WHILE WE'RE ON THE SUBJECT OF AIRLINES:  The Boeing 747 made its debut on this date, December 2, 1969.  My first flight on a 747 was from Miami to Panama with Rita.

Mount La Crosse opened last Saturday and that was the first time, in ten years, that they have been able to open in November.  They had three runs open this past week end and hope to open more next weekend.

It, probably, wasn't a good idea to put Christmas lights on the palm tree.

This sounds a lot like winter to me.  Fargo, International Falls and Duluth could get 6, or more, inches of snow tomorrow and tomorrow night.
