BIG STAR BIRTHDAYS TODAY

How could I have forgotten JANE POWELL?  It's been a long time since I've heard anything about her but she's still going strong at 84 today.  She's married to Charles Osborne (host on Turner Classic Movie Channel).  They have a home in Manhattan and another in Connecticut.  Osborne is her fifth husband.

And, who could forget DEBBIE REYNOLDS?  She's also celebrating a birthday today.  Her 80th.

By the way, there could be a connection made between Debbie Reynolds and Jane Powell.  The connection would be Elizabeth Taylor who was a bridesmaid at Jane Powell's wedding to her first husband and Jane Powell was a bridesmaid at Elizabeth's first wedding to Nicky Hilton.

And, nobody could forget the connection between Debbie Reynolds and Elizabeth Taylor.

A MAN AND HIS MUSIC

PBS has a great FILM FESTIVAL  on line featuring some very interesting short films about a wide variety of topics.  Here's a good example.  The story of the man who has the largest record collection in the world.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY KEMOSABE

A legend was born on January 30, 1933 in Detroit.  Did it have to do with cars? No.  Did it have to do with the MoTown Sound? No.

Detroit is about the last place you'd think of if you were thinking about Western legends but that's where it all started.

"A firey horse with the speed of light, a cloud of dust and a hearty "Hi-yo-Silver" was first heard on radio station WXYZ in Detroit, of all places.

You might be interested to know that shooting starts, in February,  on a brand new movie, "THE LONE RANGER" STARRING JOHNNY DEPP.  The film will be released in 2013.

The film has a budget of $213 million.  You could buy a lot of silver bullets with that kind of money.

VICTORIA PRINCIPAL HAS A BIRTHDAY TODAY

The former star of the "Dallas TV series" has been a busy girl since since that series ended.  Besides other projects in show business, she developed a line of skin care products, in 1989, which has produced over a billion dollars in sales.

Principal was born 62 years ago, today, in Fukuoka, Japan where her father was serving in the U.S. Air Force.

DID YOU KNOW?

The first couple of months a movie is in release, every cent of the ticket price goes to the studio that produced the film.  The only income the theater has is from the concession stand.  That's why a box of popcorn costs about the same as a full course meal at a gourmet restaurant.

That's show biz, folks!

THE BEST NEWS I'VE HEARD IN A LONG TIME

This historic HOLLYWOOD THEATER in downtown La Crosse may be saved from the wrecking ball.  I can't think of a better Christmas present for the city.

It makes me happy for two reasons.  The theater will be saved and it will stop the blacktop bimbos who want to tear it down and turn it into a parking lot.

TALK ABOUT A "QUICKIE"!!

I hear a lot about celebrity break-ups today.  A little research, however, shows that this new crop of bimbos can't hold a candle to the real stars of days gone by.

If you want to read about a real short, quickie marriage you'll have to go all the way back to 1919.  That's the year that Rudolph Valentino and Jean Acker were married and divorced within a period of SIX HOURS!  Probably not the best example of the "sanctity of marriage".

HAPPY THANKSGIVING

Don't forget to watch for the Mt. Rushmore float with Neil Diamond in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on NBC!

NEW THEATER

They sure didn't waste any time making the new downtown theater a reality.  Groundbreaking ceremonies were held yesterday.  GET THE FULL STORY HERE IN THE LA CROSSE TRIBUNE.

Carl sent this.

I saw the last trick but I don't believe it. I watched it again. I still don't believe it. Although, I did something very similar on a bar in Rapid City one night. The folks, there, didn't believe it either.

TV TIP

Don't miss the Mt Rushmore Float in Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on NBC.  Not only is it a spectacular float that should give South Dakota and the Black Hills some great coverage, but to make it an even more spectacular entry, the one and only Neil Diamond will be riding and performing on the float.
