I'M IN LOVE AGAIN

I THINK I COULD BE HAPPY LIVING HERE!!

TEXTING GONE VERY WRONG

RAIN ON THE WAY

I guess I'll make a quick morning run to Co-op and then plan on spending the rest of the day at home.  Sounds like the weather may get nasty.

The National Weather Service says thunderstorms will become more numerous this afternoon and

SOME OF THE THUNDERSTORMS COULD PRODUCE FUNNEL CLOUDS

Brief, heavy rain and lightening is also possible in these storms..

I MUST BE LIVING RIGHT!

I decided I'd better make a run to the store before the rain came.  Ran to Co-op, got what I needed and came home.  I got about 5 feet from the front door of the building and it started to come down in buckets!!  IT'S POURING RAIN.  How lucky can you get!

LOVELY LA CROSSE

Check out this Frank Lloyd Wright home.  This is what I'd call a spectacular house!

GULLYWASHER IN LA CROSSE

The rain poured down with a vengeance this afternoon.  I haven't seen any rain totals yet but there was enough for the National Weather Service issue advisories for possible flooding for the rest of the afternoon.

THAT'S GOOD ICE CREAM AT KWIK TRIP

Don't tell the kidney folks at the clinic but I saw an ad for the ice cream they sell at KWIK TRIP and I just had to try it.

I bought the TIN ROOF SUNDAE and it's super good at a reasonable price.  Try it out!

ATTENTION: OLD FOGY TV FANS

I've got a website right here http://metvnetwork.com/videos/ that you are going to love!

SOME ACTION IN THE GULF THIS MORNING

BACK IN MY DAY.......AND THAT WAS LONG AGO AND FAR AWAY

We called them "jumpsuits".  Now they're calling them "onepiece" but, whatever you call it, what goes around comes around....if you live long enough.

ME? CONFUSED?

I've been up for hours doing Saturday things.  I just looked at the calendar.  I should be doing Friday things.

My life is defined by confusion.

TEXAS FIRE ANTS

One of my most vivid memories of Texas is walking over a fire ant hill and both of my legs on fire within 5 seconds.

DRIVE CAREFULLY THIS WEEKEND

There were 48 WISCONSIN TRAFFIC DEATHS in May.  11 of those were during the Memorial Day weekend.

THE GOOD OLD DAYS: DRIVE-IN MOVIES

The first drive-in movie theater opened on June 6, 1933 in Camden, New Jersey.

Around La Crosse, I remember the Starlight and the North Star.  Were there any others?

LET'S DO DOUGHNUTS

I was thinking that this might be a good day to dump the diet and make a run to kwik Trip for a box of GLAZERSHey!  You only live once!

GAZEBO IS GONE

Terrel and Jacob took Rita and Roger's gazebo down yesterday.  I'll bet the back yard looks a lot bigger now.  Rita said she'll take a picture when they get it cleaned up.

WISCONSIN WEEKEND

It looks like there's a chance for AFTERNOON THUNDERSTORMS this weekend.  Best chance is tomorrow.  There should be plenty of dry time, however, to do the outside stuff.  High's will be in the 70's.

THIS IS JUST TOO GOOD!

TITLE PHOTO

The title photo is from Donnie.  Evening sky over Austin, Texas.

DID YOU SEE THIS PHOTO?? AMAZING!

I JUST LOVE THIS GUY

In this episode that Crazy Russian is going to BOIL SOME COKE.

TONIGHT ON TV

7:00 PM ON PBS "Hotel Secrets".  I'll bet I know a few.

I DIDN'T KNOW THIS. DID YOU?

ALL THE NEWS THAT'S FIT FOR THE RESTROOM

I LIKE THIS IDEA: There's a newspaper in Mexico City that's now printing the news on public restroom paper towels.

Every time you pull down for a towel, the dispenser prints a late breaking news story on it.  They use a special ink that dries instantly so you don't come away with smudged fingers.

THE ORIGIN OF THE WORD: BIBLE

I'm reading Robert Garlands new history of Ancient Greece and it's full of interesting facts.

The Greeks used papyrus for writing.  It's a plant that grows in the swamps of lower Egypt and the Egyptians had been using it 3,000 years BCE.

The Greeks, however, did not call the plant by its Egyptian name.  They called it Byblos and from that came the word Bible.

See?  You learn something new every day.

MOVE OVER BIG MAC

Did you know you can get fried chicken with rice or spaghetti at McDonalds?  You can, but only at McDonalds in the Philippines.

THE CHICKENS ARE STILL ASLEEP BUT I'M UP FOR A POKE

The lab will start poking me with needles at 7:00 this morning.  Is that any way to start the day??

DOCTOR DAY

Have to be at the clinic by 7:00 A.M. so no sitting around this morning!  You'll have to talk amongst yourselves until I get back home.

SHOW THIS TO THE GUY AT PIZZA HUT

MORE LOVE. LESS WAR.

According to The Fact Book, humans spend about 2 years of their lives making love.  The only problem I see with that is that we spend the rest of our lives making war and we never seem to run out of excuses for starting them.

A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD

Lot's of sun with the temperature around 75.  That's the La Crosse forecast for today and tomorrow.  You can't complain about that.

Of course, you don't have to wait long to complain about the weather here because we're never very far from rain or snow.  There aren't any snowflakes in the forecast but THE RAIN WILL BE BACK FOR THE WEEKEND.

A SPECIAL ITEM FOR DONNIE AND LINDA

SOUTH DAKOTA....THE WAY IT REALLY IS AND WHY I LOVE IT

If you've never been to SOUTH DAKOTA and don't know much about the state you'll find this article funny.  If you've been to South Dakota, or lived there, you'll find this article hilarious and more accurate than we might like to admit.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MICHELLE PHILIPS: 70 TODAY

No group takes me back to my youth like the MAMAS AND THE PAPAS and no song brings a tear to my eye like "California Dreamin'".

They were together less than five years but their music is for all time.

UP IS ONE THING. MOVING ANOTHER.

I had the clothes in the laundry before 6 A.M. this morning.  Tomorrow I have to be at the clinic at 7 A.M. for oncology blood tests.

I am a person who's early to rise.  That's true.  But, that doesn't mean I'm a person who's early to move.

Early morning is not made for rushing.

WANT SOMETHING TO DO TODAY?

The Farmers Almanac says June 4 is a good day to mow the yard to increase growth.  That doesn't make any sense.  If you increase the growth you'll have to mow it again.

As one bus driver was taking over for the other bus driver, yesterday, I heard the one getting off say the grass at his house was going to seed already so he thought he should, probably, go home and mow it. The other driver told him to relax because the seeding would be good for the lawn.

Who are you going to trust?  A bus driver or the Farmers Almanac?

HUG YOUR CAT TODAY

This was a big day when Thunder was still with me.

IT'S A BEAUTIFUL DAY TO BE ALIVE

I made a trip to the grocery store this morning and it was such a nice day to be outside.  Mid-day temperatures were in the upper 70's with a sunny sky.  This is my kind of weather!

I got $30.00 worth of stuff at the grocery store and when I got home and emptied the bags I didn't have a single damn thing to eat.

WHERE ARE PEOPLE MOVING TO?

Out of the 15 fastest growing cities in the USA, 7 are in Texas.

The fastest growing city of all, in the U.S., is SAN MARCOS  which is in the Texas Hill Country near Donnie and Linda and, if I'm not mistaken, San Marcos is where Bill and Bonny's son, Mark, lives.  One of the other Texas boom towns is PEARLAND which is near my old stomping grounds, Houston which, by the way, is the second fastest growing major city in America.

HOW'S YOUR MEMORY?

Think you have a great memory?  No you don't.

Since I have, practically, no memory at all, I find memory an interesting subject.

HERE'S AN ARTICLE  that explains how your brain colors and edits your memories.

AND THE GOOD NEWS IS......

The nearest rain is between Pierre and Omaha, this morning, and it's not coming this way.  That's the way...uh hu uh hu...I like it.

DON'T VISIT SOUTH DAKOTA WITHOUT MAKING A STOP IN DEADWOOD

So, I'm reading in the paper that Deadwood is in the process of coming up with some new ideas to lure people to their city.

When gambling became legal in Deadwood there were only about 3 places in the country where you could gamble.  Now it's hard to go three miles without finding a place to gamble (ask Carl).  That means the tourist traffic ain't what it used to be.

Take it from me, folks.  Deadwood has a lot of great things to do besides gambling and if you've been to South Dakota and haven't visited Deadwood you've missed the best part!!

When I lived in Deadwood, back in the late '50's, we had a lot of folks visiting our town and they weren't coming to gamble (which was illegal then) or see the hills.  They were coming for another attraction which, come to think of it, was also illegal in those days.  But, back in those olden days we weren't all that particular about what was legal and what wasn't....as long as the spenders kept coming.

Oh, I could tell you stories................

DID YOU KNOW??

In North Carolina there's a law on the books that makes it ILLEGAL TO HAVE SEX IN A CHURCHYARD.  What do you suppose it was that made them feel it was necessary to, actually, put such a law on the books?

A BEAUTIFUL DAY COMING OUR WAY

I was a late sleeper this morning.  The birds didn't wake me until 5:00 AM!  Once I was up, I could see why they were singing.  The sky is clear, we'll have lots of sun and, with a high of 75, we're not going to overheat.

I'm going to get out and enjoy this because this is Wisconsin and we can't go very long without rain.  It will be back tomorrow.

When I visited Hilo, Hawaii it was pouring rain and they told me that Hilo was about the wettest place on earth.  That may be true but I don't think La Crosse is far behind.

I WISH I WOULD HAVE SAID THAT!

"I'm so clever that, sometimes, I don't understand a single word I'm saying."

OSCAR WILDE.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHUCK BARRIS....84 TODAY!!

This is from back in the days when funny shows were actually funny.  We only had two or three channels with real, professional performers on all three.  And, it was all free!

Today we have 3,000 channels and you won't find an ounce of talent on any of them.  And, you have to pay to watch it!

HAPPY CHIMBORAZO DAY!

Today is the day we celebrate MOUNT CHIMBORAZO in Ecuador.

Because the earth bulges at the equator, Mount Chimborazo is actually farther from the center of the earth than Mount Everest.  This makes Chimborazo, technically, THE HIGHEST POINT ON EARTH

Another interesting fact is that, because of that bulge along the equator, New Orleans is six miles farther from the center of the earth than Lake Itasca which is the headwaters of the Mississippi.  You know what that means?

Clouds, rain, sun, clouds, rain sun.  I spent the afternoon reading.  That's all a day like this is good for.

QUICK NOTES

Rita and Roger are back from South Dakota, safe and sound......It's a cool breeze coming through the window this morning.....The heavy rains have closed several roads, around La Crosse, with high water and washouts.....

OOOOH! THIS IS SCARY!!

IF YOU LOVE YOUR DOG YOU'LL GIVE THEM A CANINE CUPCAKE

I discovered CANINE CUPCAKES on Twitter this morning.  You think Rita and Roger's dogs wouldn't go crazy for one of these?  I showed this to Emma and she thinks they should order some when they get back from South Dakota.  CHECK OUT THEIR WEBSITE HERE

REMEMBER THIS

WE MAY HAVE TO IMPORT MORE LUTEFISK

In the first three months of this year, the number of U.S. citizens visiting Norway increased by 37%!  Believe it or not, it wasn't the Ole and Lena jokes that got us interested in the old country.  It was the Disney movie, "Frozen" that did the trick.

The movie is based on Norway and has become the highest-earning animated movie of all time!.

TOO MUCH RAIN

Except for when I was sick, I don't remember ever spending an entire day in my pajamas but that's what I did yesterday.

What was the use of getting dressed?  I sure wasn't going out in the rain that just would not go away!

It's so sad.  It's so dry in Texas, and the other southwestern states all the way to California.  And, here, the damn rain won't stop!

I hate to tell you but there's more on the way today.  THUNDERSTORMS WILL CONTINUE EAST OF THE MISSISSIPPI TODAY WITH FLASH FLOODS POSSIBLE.

Along with the rain we could get wind gusts to 45 MPH.

The storms will continue tonight into Wednesday, mostly south of I-90..

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO IOWA BORN, JERRY MATHERS!

THE BEAVER TURNS 65 TODAY!

EVERY MINUTE OF EVERY DAY: THIS IS AMAZING

The one that really gets to me is the 204 million emails every minute of every day....and I'll bet a big bunch of them are dirty jokes.

I FEEL LIKE A BUBBA TODAY!

IT WAS GREAT HAVING THE BLUE ANGELS IN TOWN!

RITA AND ROGER ARE GETTING IN ON THE STORMS TOO

Here's a photo taken near Canton, South Dakota.

WHAT A BEAUTIFUL PICTURE OF NEW YORK

Paul and I were visiting about New York over dinner at Piggy's when Donnie was here.  They were recently there for the first time and Paul said he loved the city and was impressed with how friendly New Yorkers are.

There are a couple of things you should know about New York if you haven't been there.

#1  New York is a city.  The rest of those places where a lot of people live, in this country, are just big towns.

#2  You'll come away wishing your own home town was as welcoming to strangers as New York is.

And, when I think of New York I always think of the young man who I worked with at the hotel.  When he got back from his first trip to New York I asked him what most impressed him about the city.  He said the one thing he couldn't get over was that he never saw any fat people in New York!!

SOGGY SUNDAY

We've had thunderstorms moving through La Crosse since mid-morning and radar shows a lot more on the way.

The National Weather Service says storms will continue into tomorrow and VERY HEAVY DOWNPOURS ARE POSSIBLE WITH PONDING WATER ON HIGHWAYS.  WIND GUSTS TO 40 MPH ARE EXPECTED

I didn't even stick my head out the door today.  It's a great day to stay home and read.

IT'S ALL IN HOW YOU LOOK AT IT.

BLACK HILLS REPORT FROM DUANE

"Tourism is way up this summer.  Memorial Day weekend was a record breaker.  4,400 National Guard here for ten days of exercises.  500 airmen from Minot airbase are here with B-52 bombers.  Lots of people EVERYWHERE!"

I SAW IT ON TWITTER

San Francisco one bedroom apartments now renting for $3,400 a month.

MORE RAIN

There's more rain on the way later this afternoon, tonight and tomorrow.  Those storms will bring gusty winds, lightening and localized flooding.  With a little luck, they should be able to get through the last day of the air show before the bad weather moves in.
