YOU DON'T KNOW HOT UNLESS YOU'VE SPENT A SUMMER IN TEXAS

The Travel Channels JOHNNY JET just sent a tweet from HOUSTON.  A reminder to himself not to travel through Texas during the hot months.

Day after day we keep setting new weather records.

The temperature hit 77 DEGREES YESTERDAYThat broke the old record of 73 degrees set in 1994.

The high temperature has now reached 70 degrees or higher for 9 consecutive days.  That breaks a string of 7 days at 70 or more set back in 1910.

Wednesday, March 21, 2012

I'm betting we'll break another temperature record today.

They're forecasting a high of 78 for La Crosse.  If this trend keeps up, all summer, we'll be melting by July.

This warm weather is becoming quite historic.  Below are some interesting weather items from the National Weather Service.

Each day between March 17th and March 20th saw average temperature departures from normal of 30 or more degrees. March 17th saw the largest departure from normal, a whopping 38 degrees!

As of March 19th, the average temperature for the month of March stands at 47.2 degrees. If the month ended right now, March 2012 would be the warmest ever as the all-time warmest March is 47.1 degrees, set in 1878. With 12 days left and the temperature outlook for the rest of the month to remain above normal, there stands a good chance that March 2012 could end up as the warmest ever at La Crosse, WI.

As of March 20th, 70 degree or higher temperatures have been observed for 7 consecutive days. This ties the longest string of 70 degrees or higher temperatures in March. The previous record occurred between March 23rd and 29th of 1910.

Donnie Comments:
Even Maine is seeing records broken with one community beating a days warmest, not by 2 or 3 degrees but, by 23 degrees.

This is getting to be a daily event

Monday, March 19, 2012

The National Weather Service makes it official.

A RECORD HIGH TEMPERATURE OF 80 DEGREES WAS RECORDED SUNDAY MARCH 18 AT LA CROSSE WISCONSIN. THIS BREAKS THE OLD RECORD OF 71 DEGREES SET IN 1903.

THE LOW FOR SUNDAY MARCH 18 WAS 59 DEGREES, BREAKING THE PREVIOUS WARMEST LOW RECORD OF 48 DEGREES SET IN 1968.

Sunday, March 18, 2012

Another record breaking warm day.

The record high for the 18th of March, in La Crosse, had stood at 71 degrees since 1903...until today.  At 2:00 P.M. it was 79 which breaks another record for today.

And, by the way, it was 73 in Dripping Springs at 2:00 P.M. so if you want to cool off you can run down and visit the Texas relatives.

Here's a rundown of the other March record breakers.

81 at 3:00PM.
THAT BREAKS THE OLD RECORD OF 78 SET IN 1894.

Friday, March 16, 2012

I didn't think it was all that warm yesterday but we broke another record.

The temperature hit 71 degrees at 4:57 PM yesterday afternoon in La Crosse.  That beat the old record of 68 set in 1995.

And that's not all.  The low temperature, yesterday morning, was 44 degrees.  That tied the previous record warm minimum temperature of 44 set in 1898.

1898 is the year the first automobile was sold (March 24th) and the U.S. Assay Office opened in Deadwood (April 20).

Another "spring like" day.

If the fog burns off early enough we could see a high of 78 today.  That's, almost, beyond spring and into summer!  I don't want to make Roger nervous but, with the mild winter we've had, do you suppose we'll have a HOT, HOT summer?

TEMPERATURE

It's going to be another warm October day, in La Crosse, today with a high near 81. Any chance we'll break a record??? Not even close! Back in 1963, on the 6th of October, we hit a record high of 93 degrees!

DONNIE LAMENTS

"I still can't believe the world is ending--I dared think the 100-degree days were over. Wrong! 102 today, 103 tomorrow, burning sun, strong wind.

I would not be surprised now to see 100 degrees in October. We don't even speculate on rain any more--it just isn't part of any forecast."

HEAT AND STORMS IN SOUTH DAKOTA

Extreme heat and storms were reported across South Dakota this afternoon.  In the west a huge storm brought large hail, heavy rains and a wind gust of 79 MPH at Faith.

In the east, late this afternoon, Sioux Falls reported 109 degrees, it was 112 in Mitchell and 118 in Aberdeen.  We're not talking heat index here.  We're talking real heat.

Saturday, July 23, 2011

Rita and Roger head east today.

Roger is going over to pick up some new birds and Rita is going along to visit with Eric and Bert.  They've got a good air conditioner in the car, which is good.  They're going to need it.

We had one day of cooler weather. Now, it's back to the heat.

Temperatures will get up to 92 today with a heat index of 102.  There's a 50% chance for thunderstorms too so it's not a good day to be outside.  More a/c and closed windows.

What I hate worst about winter is the closed windows to keep out the cold.  This summer isn't much better.  We have to keep the windows closed to keep out the heat.

That's bad 'cause I'm a "fresh air" kind of guy.
