SOUTH DAKOTA....THE WAY IT REALLY IS AND WHY I LOVE IT

If you've never been to SOUTH DAKOTA and don't know much about the state you'll find this article funny.  If you've been to South Dakota, or lived there, you'll find this article hilarious and more accurate than we might like to admit.

It's from the South Dakota Magazine and written by William J. Reynolds and YOU CAN READ IT RIGHT HERE

C'MON. ADMIT IT. YOU GOOGLED "BEANIE bABIES', didn't you??

The website, ESTATELY, did a search of the subjects most searched on Google by each state.  This might scare you!

Some of the big searches from Wisconsin were:
Beanie Babies
Menthol Cigarettes
The Green Party
Oprah's Book Club

Searches from Texas turned up:
Are dinosaurs real?
Boogers
Do I have herpes
Rodeo

I won't comment.  I could comment.  But, I won't.

Except to say......

The stupidity of the American people speaks for itself.

EXCITING CITIES

WKBT has a story on their website that has got to be a joke.

The story says that LA CROSSE CAME IN AS THE SECOND MOST "EXCITING" CITY IN AMERICA according to something called the "Movoto Real Estate Blog".  The only city considered "more exciting" was HOBOKEN, NEW JERSEY, of all places.

The most exciting thing about Hoboken is that they have a lot of streets named after presidents and it's the city that played host to the FIRST BASEBALL GAME EVER PLAYED in 1846.

Kids, I've lived in a lot of cities, in my lifetime, and I'm sorry to have to tell you that Hoboken, New Jersey and La Crosse, Wisconsin are NOT the two most exciting cities in the USA.

Hoboken and La Crosse are both very nice little towns but "Exciting" is not the first word that comes to mind if you have to describe them.

South Africa is celebrating a birthday today and they're celebrating under a banner we could use for the USA.

LET US NEVER AGAIN ALLOW POLITICIANS, POWER ABUSE AND BIGOTRY DENY OR DIVIDE OUR COLORFUL NATION.

You might be interested in this article from the Washington Post which argures that owning your own home is about the dumbest thing you can do.

READ IT RIGHT HERE

"Would you come in here, Mrs. Wiggans?"

Remember when we used to call them "secretaries"?  Now they're called, "Administrative Professionals".

I'd love to meet the corporate exec. who came up with the idea of giving employees fancy titles rather than fair wages.  That's one of the few instances where I would support Capitol punishment.

YOU TELL 'EM KIM NOVAK!!

Of all people, Donald Trump with that bale of hay he wears on his head, making fun of how someone else looks is just about the sickest joke of the year.

A NOTE FROM DONNIE

"I just heard, on TV, that the U.S. population is 5 billion pounds overweight.  That's 2,500,000 tons."

CUBA: The hot travel spot.

In the first 3 months of this year, around 173,550 U.S. citizens have visited Cuba.  How are they getting there?  Most people are flying from Canada.

Great for business in Canada, great for business in Cuba and our silly embargo is hurting us a lot more than it's hurting Cuba.  Maybe we'll figure it out if we ever send the children home to play and get some real grown-ups in Congress.

THINK ABOUT IT

QUOTE OF THE DAY comes from M. I. T. economist Daron Acemoglu.

"When one person can write a check to finance your whole campaign, how inclusive will you be, as an elected official, to listen to competing voices?"

APPARENTLY, THE "RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS" COMES AT A HEAVY PRICE.

I was reading, in the paper, this morning, that in the past three weeks in Washington state, 2 young children have been killed and 1 has been seriously wounded by adults leaving guns lying around.

"Balance" is the secret to a good life and, in America, we don't seem to understand the need to balance "our rights" with "our obligations".  We're so busy defending ouselves from the "evil without" we forget about defending ourselves from the evil within.

PAT TELLS IT LIKE IT IS

It's so wonderful to hear a politician who, actually, has something constructive and sensible to say as opposed to the nitwit, goof balls running around the country pretending to be politicians.

So much of this is what George Kennan was saying in the 1940s and 1950s, in the wake of WWII, as he was formulating the US Cold War policy of containment of the Soviet Union. Military action was a very last resort. Eisenhower appreciated Kennan--both warned of a "military-industrial complex," which, sadly, has indeed become predominant, and has made our overseas military engagements perpetual. Nor did Kennan look well on trying to recreate American democracies elsewhere. I repeat a favorite Kennan quote going back to 1821, when J.Q. Adams said the US should not be going abroad in search of monsters. This is the eternal question in our history: how much do we need to do to protect ourselves? There seems to be no one lasting answer.

THE OTHER SIDE OF THE KONY STORY

As a good journalist (blogist) you have given two sides of a story, without pronouncing your own opinion. You may be the last good broadcaster out there!

THERE'S A STORY IN THE LATEST ATLANTIC THAT ASKS........

Why don't Hollywood films have any Oscar-worthy songs anymore?  Why single out the songs?  These days, Hollywood films don't have much of anything that's Oscar-worthy anymore.
