How about that? A cookout in the neighborhood!

Hair designing Daddy:

Hot time in the Twin Cities next week.

Emma says, "I'll behave myself if you give me a BARK BOX"!

Weird Al has absolutely outdone himself with this one. I love it!!

What the hell kind of dog is this??? I think Rita and Roger should have one.

Cold spot in Wisconsin this morning is Superior at 49 degrees.

I'm guessing this could be, what they call, a "troubled marriage".

Oh! What a beautiful weekend!! Get out and enjoy.

The perfect morning picture.

Please pass this on to your kids and grandkids.

Happy Birthday to Vikki Carr

She was born in El Paso, Texas in 1941.

Donnie is chilling out today.

"Unbelievably cool weather.  High today, in mid-July was just 76.  Haven't seen a July this cool in, at least, five years."

I see a few showers have creeped into our weekend forecast.

Carl reports his recovery seems to be going fine.

"Breathing is improving and bruising is fading.  Weakness and range of motion seem to be issues yet.  My first post-op appointment is Monday."

There's a new store coming to town.

It's not open yet but when it does I'll be trying it out.  How can you NOT check out and Ice Cream and Popcorn shop.

It's located just west of the Cathedral parking lot.

I called Uncle Bob today to give him Donnie's address.

I can't remember anything and he can't hear.  The conversation sounded a little like the "Whose on First?" that Abbott and Costello used to do.

This is too bizarre

This is Joaquin Phoenix's forehead.  Turn your head sideways and look at the wrinkles.  Now, you tell me he isn't copying Donnie with goofy face pictures.

Better plan an outdoor weekend.

Saturday and Sunday will bring PERFECT summer weather to La Crosse.

There's a Texas Chill

Dallas was down to 65 at 5:00 A.M.  That broke the record of 73 set in 2004.

Yikes!

Remember Dion Di Mucci?

DION IS
75 today

He's at it again. Yes. Sad to say, this is my brother.

And, you thought I was the strange one in the family!

The magazine you've been waiting for.

It can't get any cuter

Please!!!!! Do NOT let your dog do this. This is a special dog who plays by his own rules and doesn't take shit from anybody.

What a day! Flowers and Fair.

I went up to the ranch to see Rita's gardens and she outdid herself this year.

Everywhere you look it's a riot of color.

The old girl knows what she's doing once you get her going!

When the tour ended we went to the Legion for taco salads with Rita and Roger's neighbor, Larry.

And then it was a complete surprise to me when we stopped off at the Fair.

Like I mentioned the other day, I hadn't been to the fair in years so we took in all the animal barns and didn't step in anything nasty!

Talk about having fun, look at the joy on these faces!!

Is there a mall bigger than Mall of the Americas?

There will be soon
And this is almost too big to be true.  48 million square feet.  The worlds largest indoor theme park.  100 hotels and apartments.  It will cost $20 BILLION dollars.  It will join the worlds tallest building in Dubai.

Donnie won't like seeing this.

What could it be?

A 260 foot wide crater has been discovered, by air, in Siberia.  What caused it?  Who knows?  They're sending a team to get a closer look.

Just when I think TV can't get any worse, along comes VH1

Their latest attempt to get your attention, as you click your way through the 20000 channels of crap your cable system pumps into your living room every day, is a show called DATING NAKED

If you like naked butts, this is the show for you.  There will be lots and lots and lots of them.

I really like the "BRITAIN'S GOT TALENT" winners COLLABRO

If this weather forecast holds up it will be the best stretch of summer we've had all year.

FINALLY!  A stretch of warm, sunny days.

Just say SPENCER DAVIS GROUP and a flood of memories come back to me from 1966.

SPENCER DAVIS
CELEBRATES
BIRTHDAY #72 TODAY!
Thanks for the lovin', Spencer!

Today is farm day!

Rita's flowers are in full bloom so I'm going up there to see the colorful display.  My sunburn is pretty much healed so I might as well get out in the country and burn myself again.

Wednesday, July 16, 2014

Oh, boy! What a day!

It's sunny and 75 this afternoon.  What more could you possibly want??  And, tomorrow is supposed to be another one, just like today.

I'll take a week of this, please!

How do they do this stuff??

Now you do know. When you yell "GO PACKERS" they, actually, do go in a 57 Chevrolet pickup!

Need water??

Here's a bit of trivia for you.

The worlds first parking meters were installed on July 16, 1935.  Ask your friends what city they were installed in.  They'll never guess it.

Of all places, the worlds first parking meters were installed in Oklahoma City!

I'll bet you hummingbird fans never saw the birds up this close!

Happy Birthday to Corey Feldman who turns 43 today.

Going up is easy. Coming down......not so much.

If it's Fair time, autumn can't be far behind.

The La Crosse Interstate Fair opens today at 4:45 PM and runs through Sunday.
I haven't been to the fair in years.  The last time I was there I went with Donnie and he stepped in really disgusting stuff.  It was all over his shoes.  A real mess.

We've never gone back.

So, if you go, a word of caution.  Pick up your feet. Watch your step.  Wear old shoes.  Don't even think about going bare foot.

Sometimes you just have to ask yourself. "How do I smell?"

Believe me, this video will give you some new thoughts about body odor.

The National Weather Service is urging drivers to slow down this morning.

Visibility
is down to
1/4 mile
in some places

In other weather news:    The average temperature at Rochester yesterday was 60 degrees.  That's the coldest it has ever been on July 15 in Rochester.

You have to wonder. What happened to all the "class" we used to have?

I wonder if THE BEACH BOYS know how far Arcadia, Wisconsin is from a real beach?

Actually, they're not boys any more.  They have aged right along with me and they're now "Beach Old Men".  Be that as it may, they can still take us back to our youth with those wonderful old songs and they're going to be in Arcadia, next month, to sing them.

They're headlining Ashley for the Arts sponsored by Ashley Furniture along with a long list of other fine local companies.

There's also a long list of other artists that will be performing at the event on Friday and Saturday August 8 and 9.  The Beach Boys will take the stage on Friday night at 8:15.
The admission price for both days is an unbelievable $5.00.

There are cities in this country you can't even get a cup of coffee for $5.00.

I got a kick out of this Tweet.

If you love to fly but hate the airlines these days you've got to click below and watch the video

Do you have any idea how bad the airlines are really SCREWING YOU??
CLICK HERE, WATCH THE VIDEO, HAVE YOUR BARF BAG HANDY

Have you ever gone shopping by flashlight?

Duane did yesterday.

"Power outage at West River Electric substation.  I was at Tractor Supply and they gave me a flashlight to shop.  That was an experience!

It was 43 in the hills Monday night.  44 here in town.  No wonder the furnace clicked on!"

Warmer days are here again!

A BOOK TO REMEMBER

"Catcher in the Rye"
by J. D. Salinger
was published on July 16, 1951.

They still do things the old fashioned way in Kentucky.

The National Weather Service says it will be foggy tomorrow morning.

We're talking dense fog in spots along the Mississippi and Wisconsin rivers.

Did you read what Tiger Woods said this morning??

Tiger says he can win the British Open.  Sure!  That's easy for him to say now, knowing that Carl hasn't fully recovered from his surgery.

The big question is, could Tiger win if Carl was in top form?

I told you it was too cold for July.

Temperatures running 20 degrees below normal in La Crosse today.

Fantastic photo!

I have never thought about this but he has a point.

What pissed me off today?

Kwik Trip didn't have any sugar cookies.

You wonder what's happend to the U.S.A.??

This, pretty much, says it all.

This is a photo of airline passengers in the 1960's.

This is a picture of airline passengers today.

At 6:30, on the dot, the roofers were here to begin their day.

Love the name.

Duane likes to feed stray cats who come around his house.  Of course, as long as he feeds them they keep coming around his house and he finally names them.  One of them came by yesterday.

Duane said, "Mrs. Peabody came by for a scratch.  She mewed a lot and then laid down close so she could watch me."

You need to start planning your vacation.

How many of you know about the nation of Kiribati?

I'll bet most of you have never heard of it so I'll tell you.

Kiribati is an island nation in the central Pacific almost smack dab on the equator.

I bring this up, today, because today is a holiday in Kiribati that I think we need to have in the USA.  This is ELDERLY MEN DAY IN KIRIBATI.  Let's hear it for ELDERLY MEN everywhere!!!

The best news of the day, yesterday, came from Carl.

"I'm home!!!

Came home Sunday afternoon.  Health seems to improve by the hour.  Still a long way to go but things are looking up.  Thanks for Cards, letters, etc.
Carl"

A "COLD FRONT" means different things in different places.....

Donnie reports from Texas
"A TV weather lady just reported on the approaching "cold front".  She says Wednesdays high will "only" be 93 degrees."

A weather lady here just reported on the approaching "cold front,"  and a high Wednesday "of only 93 degrees."

A great Dutchman has a birthday today.

Rembrandt was born in Leiden, Netherlands on July 15, 1606.

This is a self-portrait of the master.

Dirty old man and another Dutchman self portrait.

Old age does strange things to people.

Happy Birthday to LINDA RONSTADT!

Linda turns 68 today.

Ain't it the truth?

Monday, July 14, 2014

A cool day in the Coulee but hotter than hell in Texas.

Temperatures are in the low 70's around the Coulee Region this afternoon.

It's a whole lot hotter in one of my former home towns.  105 in Edinburg, Texas.

Donnie and Linda are just about as hot at 99 in Austin, Texas.

Let's talk toilets.

Thanks, Dolly. I almost forgot Bastille Day!

The roofers are early birds.

They were on the job by 6:30, this morning and provided some good entertainment for my morning coffee.

Does this really work?

Being in and out of Wisconsin all my life, I FINALLY made it to Madison for the very first time just a few months ago.

I still have not made it to Milwaukee except for a quick landing at the airport after some heavy icing on the wings of a flight, many years ago, between Chicago and La Crosse.  Maybe I should try to make it there before I "fold my wings" for the very last time.  This short video makes MKE look kind of fun!

Could this be our first taste of autumn??

It won't feel much like summer, around here, today.  With Increasing clouds and a chance of afternoon showers, our high will only get up to about 64 this afternoon.

Our average temperature for mid-July is around 85 so with temperatures 20 degrees below that we'll feel the chill!

Who needs a job?

I think I'll take this video up to the farm to show Emma, Chance and Duke what other dogs are having for dinner tonight.

Take all the words out. Just leave the inhales and exhales and you have a very funny video.

I'd like to see them do this with the members on congress.  It might make them, actually, sound intelligent!

I'm really going to have to do something about my memory loss.

I forgot that yesterday was Saturday so I missed watching CHEATERS and COPS.  The only good reason for having a TV set is to watch CHEATERS and COPS.  Don't tell me I don't know good entertainment when I see it.

I saw a TWEET on TWITTER that says "Top 10 lists are crazy because nobody cares about 2 thru 9.

I never thought about it but it's true.  You're at the top of the list as the best or the bottom of the list as the worst.  Between the two it's so-so.  So-so's are just plain boring.  That's why I'm proud to be on the bottom of anyone's list.

Eat your heart out, Martha Stewart. THIS is what you call a REAL cooking show.

You better save this because you'll want to send this to your friends.  Also tell them that if they were reading this blog you wouldn't have to send them the videos.

Which airlines fly the most passengers?

When I was working at the airport in Houston, I took a tour through the SOUTHWEST headquarters.  You know what?  The employees that work on the ground are as happy and have as much fun as the air crews do.  Southwest is just plain fun to fly.

We weren't the only ones with way too much rain yesterday.

Chicago also got flooded big time.  It was so bad that, for the first time ever, they had to CANCEL the TASTE OF CHICAGO for Saturday.

I got some great news from Bert, this morning, about the boat races.

"Jenny took second place in the race.  She won a medal.  Go Jenny.  Great Job!"
Bert

With all the damn clouds and rain, we missed the BIG MOON last night but Donnie and Linda sure didn't.

Here's a picture of that BIG FULL MOON over Donnie and Linda's apartment complex.

Don't you dare hurt that kitty kat!

We set a RAIN record in La Crosse yesterday.

TOO MUCH!  TURN IT OFF!!
We had a RECORD RAINFALL YESTERDAY with 2.99 inches of rain at the La Crosse Airport.  The old record for July 12 was 2.65 inches set 61 years ago in 1953.

Four miles NNW of La Crosse a National Weather Service employee recorded 3.05 inches in just 1 hour and 10 minutes.

Happy Ice Cream Day!!

I'm not supposed to eat ice cream but there are always exceptions to the rule.  Today is an exception.

Tomorrow is Roger's day. He loves the cold weather.

Tomorrow, in La Crosse, you'll feel what winter in San Francisco is like.  COLD AND WET.

Going to Chicago?

Frank Sinatra's first recording was released on July 13, 1939.

"From the Bottom of my Heart" was the start of something big!

POT IS HOT

Seattle's first legal marijuana store opened for business last Tuesday and they had to close again on Friday because they had already run out of "merchandise".  A sign on the door says they'll re-open on July 21.  POT IS HOT IN SEATLE!

Retirement is a very good thing.

I think there is such a thing as too much independence.

3:30 A.M. and we're still waking up to firecrackers in the neighborhood.

TALK ABOUT HITTING THE NAIL ON THE HEAD AND GETTING RIGHT TO THE POINT!

Just a reminder that we're heading back to winter.

Today's daylight will be 1 minute and 26 seconds shorter than yesterday.

I'm already hating the longer nights.

LA CROSSE WEATHER
