Have you seen this Grandma Drummer from Onalaska on YouTube?

Here's Mary Hvizda.  This is great fun!
R.I.P. HELEN THOMAS

Just what the world needs. Plastic Wisemen!!

Talk about pushing the season!

I was flipping through the channels, last night, and caught QVC pushing CHRISTMAS WREATHS

I used to think it was awful that they were trying to squeeze out more Christmas sales by starting before Halloween.  Now they don't even wait for Labor Day.  What's next?  Santa lighting the fireworks on the 4th of July?

It's Lollipop Day and you can't celebrate Lollipop Day without the Chordettes!

John Lodge who played bass Guitar with the MOODY BLUES turns 70 today.

The heat wave is over!

We're heading into a much cooler weather pattern for the coming week.  Today's high will be around 80 and tomorrow we'll be closer to 75.  Of course, with the cooler weather, the rain will return.  There's a 60% chance for thunderstorms tomorrow.

Here's a bit of Wisconsin baseball history from the Wisconsin Historical Society.

Somewhere Donnie found this wonderful old picture of Mother and Eleanor.

This is one of the most amazing acts I've seen in a long time. ENJOY!

I did not know this.

Rita, Roger and I made a quick trip to Viroqua today.

We picked up the chair that Aunt Wilda gave me.  I can tell you I'll spend many hours in that chair watching TV and reading.  I may even fall asleep now and then!  They tell me that's what old people do when they sit down in a comfortable chair.

We didn't stop to see Aunt Wilda because we had to get back to La Crosse and Bob and Lynne had a bunch of work to do at the house.  We'll go back soon to spend some time with her so I can tell her how comfortable I am in the new chair!

We have to go back, anyway, because we forgot the bags and attachments that went with the vacuum cleaner that I also got.  It, originally, belonged to Mother and when she died Aunt Wilda took it and now it's back with me.

You know what they say, "what goes around comes around".

Now HERE'S a REAL coffee maker!

All you have to do is yawn and it dispenses a FREE cup of coffee for you!!  I could really use this in the morning!

Drive at you own risk.

You Had One Job

I love modern architecture and I wanted to share this house with you.

It's located about 200 miles northwest of Chicago in Black Earth, Wisconsin and I like it because it is not only modern but it's very modern Scandinavian style which I like for the straight, clean lines and simple design.

CLICK HERE TO SEE THE ARTICLE  and be sure to click on "slideshow" to see photos of the house.

Cold front on the way and Donnie had perfect timing in sending this photo!

HOW TO TELL
WHEN IT'S
COLD
IN WISCONSIN

I give you Vikki Carr this morning and Donnie wants to give you Leona Anderson.

Again, I want to thank everyone who takes the time to visit this blog.

Yesterday we had 450 page views which makes me think I'd better keep it going!  Besides, doing this keeps me out of trouble......most of the time.

Happy Birthday to Vikki Carr!

Born in El Paso, Texas, Vikki Carr is 72 or 73 today, depending on who you ask.  Wikipedia says she was born in 1941, which would make her 72, but the AP says she is 73 today which means she would have been born, just a couple of months after me, in 1940.

If my memory serves me right, and it usually doesn't, I think I remember she was born the same year I was.

In any event, she had some great hits during her career.

Another hot one on the way.

Forecasters say our high, today, will be around 91 with some thunderstorms which will bring in a cold front that will drastically change our weather.  Behind the front we should see a high tomorrow closer to 78.  Won't that feel good?

And, I'll drink to that!!!

What are we going to do with all of our stuff?

Here's a great idea for recycling plastic, although, I'm sure the oil lobby will do everything they can to shoot it down in this country.

Donnie and Linda had company today.

I couldn't think of a sentence severe enough for these people.

At 11 o'clock this morning, Lynne wrote....

"90 degrees already and Bob just mowed. Lucky we cut our lawn way back years ago. No more outside for either of us today. Nice and cool in the house."

Carl found this video about the back yard at one of Donnie and Linda's "neighbors".

Hang on, kids. Cooler weather is coming.

By Sunday we'll see the afternoon high top out at around 75 degrees.

A special item for Lynne:

Did you know today is a holiday?

I made a run over to Co-op, totally forgetting that today is "Mothers, stuff as many kids as you can in the car and take them to the grocery store so you can stand in the middle of the aisle and scream at them day".

I got out of there as quick as I could.

This is the house I want and I won't settle for anything less.

Check out this page for some beautiful photos of Norway.

Grandpa should have stayed where he was!

A great story from Donnie...

I was resting on the porch after five hours burning brush. I had no more than cleaned up and settled down when we got more than an inch of rain.  Perfect timing, extinguishing the end of my bonfire and refreshing the atmosphere, and myself.

As I sat on the porch, surrounded by quiet woods, a mockingbird alighted on a tree branch in front of me. He flitted a moment, then dropped down and landed on the magazine in my hands! Of course I flinched, and he took off, stopping just a few feet away atop a porch cactus, to engage his own more recognizable species reflected in the window. But for that split second we were eye to eye, life to life, equals.

I think it's nap time.

Just a thought......

I think it is just terrible and disgusting how everyone has treated Lance Armstrong, especially after what he's achieved, winning 7 Tour de France races, while he was on drugs. When I was on drugs, I couldn't even find my frig'n bike.

Happy Birthday Dion DiMucci (Dion & the Belmonts) he's 74 today!

Do the mosquitoes love you?

This is a great article from The Atlantic that has all kinds of interesting stuff about mosquitoes and who they like to bite!  (Click here to read the full article)

One item I though was interesting:  If you're outside and the mosquitoes are driving you nuts, forget the spray, the candles and the bug zappers.  Just bring a fan out and let it blow on you.  Mosquitoes don't like the breeze.

The Wisconsin Historical Society has a new Preview Website that's quite interesting.

They're still working on it but you can get a preview by clicking here.

There's an interesting feature that allows you to quickly check records for your family tree.  It only took a few seconds to find Grandma and Grandpa Terp's marriage information.  I'll check for other items later.

Shave Cream smells good..tastes awful.

I learned another valuable lesson this morning.  Always close your mouth before you spread shave cream on your face.

See?  This guy does it right.

And, the best news is that his doctors say his health is improving.

Ain't it the truth?

Getting a late start this morning.

I was up at my usual time, around 3 A.M., made my coffee and sat down at the computer.  Alas, I was cut off from the outside world.  I checked the little lights and, sure enough, I wasn't getting an internet feed.

One can either throw a tantrum or go back to bed in a case like that.  I went back to bed and slept, some more, until 5.

Thank you, CHARTER.  They were on the ball and the feed was coming through again by then.

It's good to be in touch!

Another day of hot weather as the weather advisories keep coming.

THE HEAT & HUMIDITY OF THE PAST FEW DAYS WILL CONTINUE INTO FRIDAY.WITH DAYTIME HEAT INDICES TOPPING OUT FROM 95 TO 105 DEGREES.

THE CUMULATIVE EFFECT OF SEVERAL DAYS IN A ROW OF HIGH HEAT INCREASES THE RISK FOR HEAT RELATED ILLNESSES.

THIS MULTI-DAY HEAT WAVE CAN BE PARTICULARLY STRESSFUL ON SMALL CHILDREN.THE ELDERLY OR ANYONE WITH A MEDICAL CONDITION. BE SURE TO CHECK ON THE ELDERLY LIVING ALONE.THEY ARE TYPICALLY MOST AT RISK.

DO NOT LEAVE PETS OR KIDS ALONE IN A CAR FOR ANY LENGTH OF TIME.

RELIEF WILL COME BY FRI EVENING AS A COLD FRONT SWEEPS THROUGH THE REGION.

This would be great fun to see.

Replicas of two of the ship Columbus sailed to the new world in, the Pinta and the Nina, will sail into Winona today and will be open to the public until their departure on July 24.  The ships will be docked at Levee Park.

A good reminder.

Hotter than Hell? Just about!!

It was 92 in La Crosse at noon with a HEAT INDEX OF 100Our spring was on the cool side this year but summer is making up for it!

You GO Google!!

Congratulations to Tina Turner and Erwin Bach.

After a 27 year courtship they've finally decided to get married in Switzerland where the couple has lived for more than 15 years.

Tina is one of my all-time favorite singers.  She's "Simply the Best".

An advisory from the National Weather Service.

ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS ARE POSSIBLE THIS AFTERNOON, MAINLY IN WESTERN WISCONSIN. BRIEF HEAVY RAINFALL AND LIGHTNING ARE THE MAIN HAZARDS WITH ANY POTENTIAL STORM.

Why aren't you rich?

Your daily habits is probably the answer.  Rich people spend their day differently than poor people do.  Watch this.

Love this Night Light.

What's wrong with this picture?

A big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to SPENCER DAVIS who is 71 today!

This takes me back to my old rock days at KIMM radio.  It was a big hit for the Spencer Davis Group.

If I asked you to guess who the highest paid actor in Hollywood is, I'll bet you could guess till you were blue in the face and not come up with the right answer.

Since I don't think you'd ever guess it, I'll just tell you.  According to FORBES, the highest paid actor is ROBERT DOWNEY JR..  He went home, from work, between June of 2012 and June of 2013 with $75 MILLION DOLLARS.  Not bad for 12 months of play acting!

Another hot one on the way.

It was still 78 degrees when I got up at 4 this morning.  The heat index was at 84.  That's hot enough for mid-afternoon but at 4 o'clock in the morning it's ridiculous.

Today will be like a Death Valley day with an afternoon high around 92 giving us a heat index of 101.  I think it might be best to stay in and stay cool!

The National Weather Service advises that the long duration of dangerous heat will lead to an increasing threat for heat related illnesses as the week progresses.

So, you think Mall of America is a big deal?

The New Century Global Center has just opened in Chengdu, China with 18 million (18,000,000) feet of floor space.  That makes it the biggest building in the world.

You could put 3 Pentagon buildings in it and there would still be room to walk around.

There's everything from an IMAX movie theater to a shopping mall, restaurants, offices, hotels, a skating rink and a beach.  And lots and lots of room to get lost!

I noticed these beautiful summer clouds on my way to the grocery store yesterday.

I was more than a little surprised when I got home and found this email waiting for me.

Dexter knows how to stay cool in the summer heat.

This advisory is from the National Weather Service.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN LA CROSSE HAS ISSUED A HEAT ADVISORY WHICH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM CDT FRIDAY.

PLAN ON DAYTIME HEAT INDICES IN THE 95 TO 105 DEGREE RANGE THROUGH FRIDAY, HIGHEST IN THE VALLEYS.

THE LONG DURATION OF THIS HEAT COULD LEAD TO HEAT EXHAUSTION OR HEAT STROKE IF APPROPRIATE HYDRATION OR FREQUENT REST BREAKS ARE NOT TAKEN.

Isn't this the happiest looking guy you've ever seen?

Thunder would have loved this fact!

Folks Google "cat" 30 million times a month.  More than any other animal.

Cats are amazing creatures.....and they know it!

AMEN TO THIS! Remind everyone you know to use a little common sense!

Baby, it's HOT out there!!

The 11 A.M. temperature was 90 with a heat index of 99.  Even I have to turn on the A/C when it gets that hot!  I did manage to get to both Walgreen's and Festival early this morning.  I'm not like those mad dogs and Englishmen who go out in the noon day sun.

A swedish proverb that hits the nail on the head!

Worry often gives a small thing a great shadow.

One of Wisconsins hottest summers ever was back in 1995

This is from the Wisconsin Historical Society.

1995 - Deadly Heat Wave Ends

From July 12-15, 1995, the Midwest was subjected to a deadly outbreak of hot and humid weather responsible for 141 deaths in Wisconsin. According to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, this was the "greatest single event of weather-related deaths in Wisconsin history."

Most of the fatalities happened in the urban southeast counties of the state, and at one point several Milwaukee-area hospitals were unable to admit more patients.

Milwaukee Temperatures (from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel): July 12: Hi=91, Lo=65 July 13: Hi=103*, Lo=78 July 14: Hi=102, Lo=84 July 15: Hi=92, Lo=69 July 16: Hi=88, Lo=68

*Some communities reported highs as high as 108. Heat Index values were 120-130 degrees. NOAA’s Natural Disaster Survey Report on the outbreak is available at http://www.weather.gov/os/assessments/pdfs/heat95.pdf [Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel]

Now, here's a great deal for men who hate to shop. And, let's face it, that's most men.

It's a new internet service for men.  You tell Trunk Club what you like and don't like, give them a rundown on your lifestyle and they pick put a bunch of clothes and send them to you.  Pick out what you like, send the rest back and you only pay for what you keep.

Willie will be appearing at the La Crosse Center tomorrow night!

It was such a brilliant beginning for the space program......

44 years ago today.  July 16, 1969 was the day Apollo 11 lifted off, on the way to the moon.  Who could have dreamed, on that day, that the great space adventure we began would fizzle out with a whimper as the last space shuttle came in for a landing on July 21, 2011.

It's going to be a HOT opening for the La Crosse Interstate Fair.

The midway is set up and ready to roll tomorrow as the fair opens in West Salem.  I haven't been to the fair in years.  The last time was with Donnie but I have no idea what year it was.

Luxury Travel Blog has a wonderful article on the worlds greatest railway journey.

Oh! To be 20 again and rich!  Click here to read the article.

I see a Green Bay Alderman wants to ban "baggy pants".

Personally, I'd rather see all "baggy politicians" banned.

3rd Street rolls along with its wild and wacky ways.

It almost reminds me of the Haight Ashbury days in San Francisco!

Carl, Kathy, Rita, Roger and I were down on 3rd street for dinner Saturday night but we missed the guy, who police officers said was "extremely intoxicated", when he called the officers names, turned around and mooned them and then asked what it was going to cost him.  It's going to cost him something because he received a citation from the officers.

That really should be on the first page of "Drinking 101".  Never moon a police officer.

Walking on water ain't no miracle but it sure is a great trick!

South Dakota is #1 for business!

Every year CNBC rates all 50 states in 10 categories to determine which state is most friendly for business.  This year South Dakota beat Texas to become the nations most friendly state in which to do business.

Today is be a DORK day.

The dictionary defines a dork as a silly, out-of-touch person who tends to look odd and behave ridiculously around others.  In other words, a social misfit.  I didn't know there was a special word to describe me.

Anyone remember this??

A look back in history from the Wisconsin Historical Society.

July 15, 1980 - The Western Wisconsin Derecho was a severe weather system that moved through several western counties on July 15, 1980. It cut a 20-mile-wide swath through St Croix, Pierce, Dunn, Eau Claire, Chippewa, and Clark counties.

Although much of the storm's damage was caused by straight-line winds in excess of 100 mph, several tornadoes were also reported. The storm caused nearly $160M in damage (1980 dollars) and killed three people.

I did not know that about the TWINKIE

THE LINE-UP

Here's a bit a British humor.

We were both suffering from depression for a while, so me and the wife were going to commit suicide yesterday. But strangely enough, once she killed herself, I started to feel a lot better.

My missus packed my bags, and as I walked out the front door, she screamed, "I wish you a slow and painful death, you bastard!" "Oh," I replied, "so now you want me to stay?!"

Happy 67th Birthday to Linda Ronstadt!

Jerry Sienfeld has been off the air for more than 15 years.

Even without working much, according to FORBES, he still managed to haul in $32 million over the past 12 months which makes him the richest comedian on the planet.  Doing a show about nothing turned out to be a very good idea.

July 15, Mid-July, and it will feel like it today.

It will be hot and humid with a slight chance for an afternoon thunderstorm.  The high will be around 88.

Afternoon temperatures will hover around 90 the whole week.  Stay cool!

This is the day you've been waiting for!

TWINKIES ARE BACK
BEGINNING TODAY!

Lemon Asparagus. Doesn't that sound good?

Just came across this recipe for Lemon Asparagus.  Quick and easy to make.  Click here for the recipe on the allrecipes website.

The Wisconsin State far is right around the corner.

It might be worth a trip across the state just to try some of the new foods that will be featured at the Wisconsin State Fair.

Beer doughnuts sound like a "healthy" taste treat and that would be a good dessert to eat after a main course Cajun Frog Legs.  Or you could eat a Reuben Brat wrapped in a pretzel bun followed by an Elvis Sundae.

The fair opens August 1.

It feels like July outside!

At 3:00 P.M. it was 86 in La Crosse with a heat index of 91.  Nothing like the good old summertime!

There's a big celebration, today, in Wyoming!
