RAINY NIGHT IN WISCONSIN

From the looks of the radar, it's going to rain and rain and rain tonight.  That's OK.  I'm going to crawl into bed and put the covers over my head.

That will happen AFTER "Cheaters" and "Cops".

Do you realize I haven't had the TV on since last Saturday night when I watched "Cheaters" and "Cops".

Hey!  As far as I'm concerned TV is trash no matter what channel it's on.  I figure I might as well watch some of the trashiest.

THOSE WERE THE GOOD OLD DAYS: THIS AD IS FROM 1950

THIS LOOKS BAD....VERY BAD

GO FIGURE

WONNERFUL, WONNERFUL

Ah, yes!  Remember that "wonnerful"

little JANET LENNON of the Lennon Sisters?  Well, little Janet has grown up to be 68 YEARS OLD TODAY!

A one and a two and, before you know it, you're a 68!

CAMERA UPDATE FROM YESTERDAY

Last we heard yesterday, Donnie had lost his very expensive Nikon camera.  That was the bad news.

This morning we have the good news.  LINDA FOUND IT.

ONE WAY OR ANOTHER YOU'RE RELATED TO OLE AND LENA.....WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT

THINK ABOUT IT

ROGER LOADS THE CHAIRS

Rita, Roger and I had the best time visiting Aunt Wilda, yesterday, and then traveling through Amish country to get the last two dining table chairs the Amish made for them.

The chairs are not just chairs.  They're works of art!  Rita says, now that they have the new chairs, the old table looks a bit shabby so that may be the next new addition!

MISERABLE WEEKEND WEATHER AHEAD

All the farmers were out in the fields, yesterday, raking hay.  They picked a great day to do it and they'll have a chance to finish up today before the THUNDERSTORMS ARRIVE TONIGHT.

The forecast says 100% chance for thunderstorms tonight and 90% chance tomorrow.  Today will be sunny with gusty winds as strong as 25 MPH.

A MUCH "CLEANER" LOOKING LAWN

Rita and Roger got rid of the gazebo and just left the benches.  It's a much cleaner looking lawn.  I like it!

A REAL FRIDAY THE 13TH FOR DONNIE AND LINDA

DONNIE WRITES
"Red in the morning, sailor take warning."

We failed to heed the warnings last night, and we had the most fierce thunderstorm in five years.  It made a mess of our balcony porch, shredding the sunscreen Linda had put up and breaking several plant pots.

Meantime, no matter how small our lodgings, we continue to lose things left and right.  Today, Friday the 13, it's my Nikon camera.  It's, simply, not to be found in this tiny apartment.  I remember using it a couple of days ago but don't remember taking it out of the apartment.".

DUANES GOING DINGY

They're still doing street repairs in front of Duane's house and it sounds like a nightmare.

"My driveway is wrecked.  Big cracks. Chucks split from the dirt movers.  Big caterpillar parked beside my driveway.  More right at the bottom so I can't use the carport.

This whole week is a nightmare and they're still not done.".

I GIVE UP. AT 74 THERE ISN'T ENOUGH TIME LEFT FOR GREAT THINGS.

I think I'll just go for a few half-assed things.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY FOLKS

We have some interesting folks born on June 13th.  I kid you not, this is a fact.  If you don't believe me, look it up.

Roman Emperor CHARLES THE BALD was born on this date in 823.  Roman Emperor CHARLES THE FAT was born on June 13, 839.

In more recent times, BOBBY FREEMAN THE SINGER was born on June 13, 1940.

VIROQUA DAY

Aunt Wilda is still not feeling up to par but she wants us to come anyway.  Rita told her we won't stay long but we'll go up early afternoon and see how she's doing.

IT'S A BIG DAY FOR ART IN LA CROSSE

The day we get to see the mural on the west wall of the PUMP HOUSE has arrived.  The unveiling of the trompe l'oeil PAINTING BY JOHN PUGH will be at 6:30, tonight, following the dedication ceremony which starts at 5:45.

If I don't get to the dedication, this afternoon, I'll get down there tomorrow and get a picture to share with you on the page.  I can't wait to see it.

STORMY WEEKEND AHEAD

CAN YOU BELIEVE IT'S BEEN THAT LONG? WHERE DOES THE TIME GO?

WHAT HAPPENED TO OUR BEAUTIFUL WEATHER?

At 7:00 AM it was 68 degrees in La Crosse.  HIGH THIS AFTERNOON WILL BE 69.  This really sucks after our sunny sky and 80 degree temperatures yesterday!

DONNIE AND LINDA ARE COOKIN'

It was 90 in Austin at 5:00 PM and the forecast says it will be hotter thursday.  The summer heat is on in Texas.

WHAT A STORY! THE STORK CLUB

I've spent the afternoon reading Ralph Blumenthal's fabulous book, THE STORK CLUB.

New York.  The 40's and 50's.  The War.  And through it all the greats of movies, Broadway, politics and literature made their way to 3 East 53rd Street in New York.  There was no club in the world more famous than the club at that address...The Stork Club.

I mentioned KEY WEST earlier today and I was surprised to read a Key West story I had never heard before in the very first chapter.

ERNEST HEMINGWAY was living in Key West during the heyday of the Stork Club and when he visited New York he was a regular at the club.  The clubs colorful owner was Sherman Billingsley.

Billingsley mentioned to Hemingway that even his own nephew was trying to open a club in Key West and call it The Stork Club and he wondered if Hemingway to do anything to stop it.

About an hour later Hemingway called back and told the boss that "The Stork Club" in Key West had changed its name to "Billingsley's Cooked Goose".

Ah, yes.  Those were the good old days.

THEY'RE GETTING CLOSER

OH NO MR. BILL!
THEY'RE IN LA CRESCENT!!
They've spotted the STINK BUG in La Crescent.  Before you know it they'll be living with Paul and Dorothy.  They've been seen in Duluth and Minneapolis.

Besides smelling like dirty socks, these critters can do a lot of damage.

LOOKS LIKE A GOOD DAY FOR OUTSIDE CHORES

DONNIE DOING "FOOT SELFIES" AT THE COFFEE SHOP

"I'm usually out by 7:00 and make stops at two,
and sometimes three, coffee shops by 9:00.  Each has a different clientele to observe  and each has different orientations to the weather so I can find a shady spot.

This morning was so chilly I had to go indoors.  Very unusual for June in Texas.".

BATTERY ALERT

GUESS WHO'S ON MY SHIT LIST NOW

While I was at FESTIVAL yesterday I stopped at the card rack to pick out a birthday card.

They had Happy Birthday cards to Dad, Mother, cousin, brother, sister, aunt, uncle, co-worker, son, daughter and the man in the moon but would you believe THEY DID NOT HAVE A SINGLE CARD THAT SIMPLY SAID "HAPPY BIRTHDAY".

No, I didn't miss them.  I went from one end to the other three times and there was not a single "Happy Birthday" card you could buy unless you were buying one for your Dad, Mother, cousin, brother, sister, aunt, uncle, co-worker, son, daughter or the man in the moon.

NOTE TO FESTIVAL:  If someone stops by your card rack and wants to buy a card for someone other than your Dad, Mother, cousin, brother, sister, aunt, uncle, co-worker, son, daughter or the man in the moon....YOU'VE JUST LOST A SALE.

Get a clue, folks!

DON'T BOTHER ME. I'M COUNTING BRAIN CELLS.

According to NPR, the old belief that once you lose a brain cell you can't replace it is not true.

Researchers have found that  brain cells continue to reproduce throughout your entire life so you continue to learn new things even into old age.

I don't believe that for a minute.  I haven't learned anything new in 30 years.

SO, THE LOGICIAN SAYS.....

I came across an article that was titled, "20 JOKES THAT ONLY INTELLCTUALS WILL GET".  I got more than I thought I would.  That must mean I'm smarter than I thought I was.

This is one I got.

3 logicians walk into a bar.  The bartender asks, "Do you all want a drink?"

The first logician says, "I don't know".

The second logician says, "I don't know".

The third logician says, "Yes".

And, here's another one I liked.

It's hard to explain puns to kleptomaniacs because they always take things literally.

And, I actually did laugh at this one.

Shrodinger's cat walks into a bar.  And doesn't.

NOW I WANT TO PLAY WITH A PIG TOO

I HAVEN'T HAD ANY, YET, THIS SUMMER

THUNDER WOULD HAVE LOVED THIS

NOW I'VE HEARD IT ALL: COW COLOGNE

That's right folks.  A company in California has come up with a cologne that smells like a human.  It's not for humans...we already smell like humans...the cologne is for the cows!!

And, why would you want your cows to smell like humans?

Cows are immune to malaria but malaria can lead to death in humans.  The idea is to fool the mosquitoes into thinking the cows are humans and they'll bit them and leave us alone.

That may be fine for us but there's one thing that bothers me for the cows.

How does a cow scratch a mosquito bite?

PERFECT WEATHER FOR LA CROSSE

I see some rain moving into Rapid City this morning but we'll have none of that around here today.

After some EARLY MORNING FOG it will be sunshine all day with a high in the mid-70's.  That's AOK with me.

YOU HAVE TO PLAY ALL THE GAMES TO GET TO THE CHAMPIONSHIP

I'm ready to rip it up today!
