WHERE DID SUMMER GO?

I DON'T LIKE LIVING IN A BLUE STATE

YOU MIGHT NOT LIKE THIS BUT YOU NEED TO HEAR IT....PLEASE LISTEN

WATCH THIS WITHOUT A TEAR IN YOUR EYE.....GOD, SAVE THE ELEPHANTS

THE FUNNY QUOTE OF THE DAY COMES FROM ROY ORBISON

"I may be a living legend, but that sure don't help when I've got to change a flat tire."

NOTHING MAKES MORE NOISE THAN THE GARBAGE TRUCK AT 5:30 IN THE MORNING

A TRIBUTE TO ROBIN

I DIDN'T WAKE UP UNTIL 4:30 THIS MORNING

Actually, I don't know why I bothered to wake up then.  My calendar is totally empty today.  That's the way I like it.  I've never trusted people who are always busy.

I WAS ALL GROWN UP BY THE 80'S WHICH IS PROBABLY WHY I NEVER HEARD OF THE POUND PUPPIES....I, APPARENTLY, MISSED SOMETHING

OH NO! SUCH A SHOCK AND SO VERY TRAGIC

I'LL PROBABLY GET STONED FOR SAYING THIS BUT, EVEN THOUGH I WAS A BIG ELVIS FAN, THERE'S SOMETHING A BIT SICK ABOUT ALL OF THIS

BREAKFAST VISIT

Rita had a doctors appointment this morning so she stopped by, after that, and we went to A & W for breakfast.  They're getting ready for a trip to Florida in September.

"FALLISH" DAY ON THE MISSISSIPPI

The sky is a November gray and there's a feel of fall in the air with the temperatures in the mid 70's at mid-day.

The National Weather service says we can expect to see scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms as a cold front sweeps across the area today and tonight.

RITA AND ROGER WILL LIKE THIS

LIKE McNUGGETS WITH YOUR BIG MAC?

Well, if you're in Japan be warned.  The McNugget's there won't taste exactly like the McNugget's here.

In Japan they're now serving TOFU McNUGGETS made with minced fish, carrots, soybeans and onions.

Does that sound good to you???

I THINK THIS IS JUST ABOUT THE CUTEST DOG PICTURE I'VE EVER SEEN!

I GOT A NOTE FROM KATHY

"Just listened to 'The Lion Sleeps Tonight' and couldn't wait to tell you that Carl and I had the pleasure of seeing the lead singer, George Staerkel perform at the Arizona Opry along with his wife, Brenda Barleen.

He's still just as talented and what a musician.  He played several different instruments and sang all of his songs from the past.".

Here's another Token's song I love and I'll bet he sang this one for Carl and Kathy too.

And, Carl and Kathy will get a kick out of this.

The "Lion Sleeps Tonight" hit the top 40 charts when I was living in Key West and I remember it playing over and over and over again on the juke box at Sloppy Joe's.  Whenever I hear that song I think of those warm tropical nights in the Keys.

MOVIE MEMORIES

Look what I found on the internet.

Alas, it's gone now but we spent many hours there when we were kids.  Gladys and Lee owned the theater.  Lee ran the projectors and Gladys sold the tickets and the popcorn.  Once in a while Lee would let me come up into the projection booth and watch him work.  That was, almost, like being back stage at Radio City Music Hall when I was a kid.

That narrow window, above the marquee, and a fan, was the only ventilation for the projection booth.  No air conditioning in those days and those arc lamps on the old projectors threw out a ton of heat.  It was pure torture spending two hours up there, while the show was playing, and I loved every minute of it!

SINCE WE'RE CELEBRATING THE LION TODAY LET'S GET SOME FACTS

The lion is the only cat that is really a social animal. Prides can consist of up to 40 animals. In the wild, the male lion's life span is about 12 years.  Females make it to about 15.  In a well run zoo, however, they live into their 20's.

Before the human came along, lions lived in North America, Europe and Africa.  Now, they're only left in Africa and India and we're doing our best to kill them off too.

THE ANSWER IS "NO"

And, the question is...

WHEN NOT TO SET THE DATE

If you know someone who is planning a wedding, tell them to forget January, February and March.  According to The Facts Book, marriages that take place during those three months tend to have the highest divorce rates.

WONDERFUL! I LIKE IT

THERE'S SUCH A THING AS TOO EARLY

I like to get up early but 12:30 A.M. is even too early for me.  The phone woke me at that ridiculous hour.  I figure, if someone calls me at 12:30 in the morning someone has died or it's a wrong number.  Fortunately, it was the later.  Someone wanting to know if I had talked to Carter.

The only Carter I could think of was the former president and he hasn't called me in ages so I hung up but now I can't get back to sleep.

AGAIN OUR MEDIA IS BUSY "MAKING UP THE NEWS" RATHER THAN REPORTING THE FACTS

There have been so many reports and rumors about the Yellowstone volcano erupting at any second that officials there have felt it necessary to issue a statement to set the record straight.

IT WAS ON THIS DATE, AUGUST 7, 1974 THAT PHILIPPE PETIT WALKED THE HIGH WIRE BETWEEN THE TWIN TOWERS IN NEW YORK

Who could have dreamed what lay in the future for the twin towers on that day?

CBS: RIGHT UP THERE WITH CNN AND FOX FOR "CLUELESS REPORTING"

So CBS reports on a "sideways tornado" over the Maryland.  What's a "sideways tornado" you ask?  Well, there's no such thing.  It was a hoax sent in to them.  But, you're smart enough to ask what a "sideways tornado is.  The people at CBS are not.  Walter Cronkite must be spinning in his grave.

These people make huge bucks working for these networks and they don't know enough to come in out of the rain....or a "sideways tornado".

When I began my broadcasting career it was a "golden rule" that you got the story verified by three sources before you published or broadcast it.  Nowadays, in the frantic ratings game, they could care less about whether it's true or not, fact or fiction.  They're not there to inform the pubic...they're there to ENTERTAIN the public and get the big ratings.  The result is that their audience is as clueless about what's really going on in the world as they are.

Some of us age better than others.

TAKE ME BACK TO THE 60'S

I'm having great fun reading "Jet Set" by William Stadiem.  The book takes us back to the '60's and the beginning of the jet age and the rich and famous "Jet Setters" who brought  such glamour to flying.

There are lot's of great little items like the fact that Frank Sinatra's favorite snack was Campbell's Franks and Beans which he ate cold, right out of the can!!  He always had a 2 month supply on his private plane.

Would you believe Olivia Newton John was 29 years old when she played John Travolta's high school sweetheart in Grease!

She'll celebrate her 66th birthday next month.

These days she packs them in with "Summer Nights" at the Flamingo in Las Vegas.  That's a show I'd like to see.

Graphical depiction of the weather story for today.

NO MORE #4

1:11 PM IT'S GETTING DARK OUTSIDE

I hear thunder in the distance.  Rain is approaching from the west.  Mother Nature will water the gardens today.

GOT A NOTE FROM RAPID CITY THIS MORNING

Ron wrote:

"Penny and I went to Deadwood last Friday and visited three cemeteries.  As a young girl, Penny went to the cemetery daily with her grandfather.  He said he went because that was where all his friends were.

Mt. Moriah (in Deadwood) sure has changed.  No cars allowed anymore and it costs a dollar to visit.  Penny won a dollar at the slots so that paid for our cemetery visit.

We walked all the way to the top of the cemetery and then a couple blocks more to where the old town marshal, Seth Bullock's big tombstone is.

I asked why he was buried outside the cemetery and was told he wanted to be buried there so he could see the tower erected in honor of his old friend, President Teddy Roosevelt.  Now, the trees have grown so tall you can't see the tower anymore."

WHY DIDN'T THEY THINK OF THIS BEFORE NOW?

A GOOD THOUGHT

YOU WON'T SEE THIS IN STURGIS.......OR WILL YOU?

CONTRARY TO WHAT THE YOUNG FOLKS THINK, YOU DON'T STAY YOUNG FOREVER

Yesterday, a couple of my buddies and I stopped at Hooter's for some hot wings and drinks.

After being there for a while, one of the servers asked me which waitress I would like to be stuck in an elevator with.

I told her, "The one that knows how to fix elevators.  I'm old, tired and have to pee a lot."

I'LL DRINK TO THAT!

TOO HOT TO HANDLE

WHOSE WATCHING OUR WATER?

The toxic blue green algae in Lake Erie that is causing the water scare in Toledo could cause a scare anywhere.

No state requires testing for this toxin which can cause diarrhea, vomiting, pneumonia, liver inflammation and even death.

Toledo residents are being told not to use the city water.  Bottled water is almost impossible to find within a hundred miles of the city and all the restaurants have been closed.

I'm thinking it might be a good idea for every state to start checking for this stuff.

I thought I'd mention this just in case you don't have anything else to worry about today.

A PACKERS POST

MOVIE PLUG FROM RON HOWARD

WHOSE GOT THE BUCKS?

According to economist Chris Kolmar....

In Wisconsin John Minard has the states biggest money heap with $7.7 billion.

In Minnesota it's Whitney MacMillan, who owns 9% of Cargill. He's worth $4.8 billion.

In South Dakota, banker J. Denny Stanford has $1.3 billion.

And Christie Walton is sitting pretty in Wyoming with 37.9 billion.

HEY! KIRSTIE! YOU'VE GOT A SUPER GREAT IDEA THERE!!!

HOT COUNTRY BRINGS MEMORIES

According to the TASTE OF COUNTRY website, the biggest country hit for the month of August was Dierks Bentley's "DRUNK ON A PLANE".

I want to share it with you because it brings back memories of some great flights I took in my "wild days of youth".

Take the day I stopped at a Sioux Falls bar and woke up the next morning in a Minneapolis hotel room having NO idea how I got there (but there was a plane involved).

I won't go into all the details but I guarantee it would make a great movie plot!
