Thunder will get gourmet human tuna today. This is NATIONAL PET DAY. I found something interesting on the National Pet Day website. A list of the most popular names for your dog or cat. I was surprised at the list. CLICK HERE TO TAKE A LOOK

What a morning!
When I came home from the grocery store, Thunder wasn't around but that's not unusual. If he's home alone he usually goes to one of his special hiding places...just to be on the safe side. After I get home, he'll finally decide to come out.
Today, I was busy putting groceries away and it suddenly dawned on me that, this time, he hadn't come out to greet me. I went looking for him. I searched all the hiding places and there was no one there. I called him but no response. The screens were still securly attached to the windows and the door was still locked when I got home but Thunder was gone!
Roger came into town to help me look and just about the time he got here, of course, I found the little guy, hiding behind the curtain in the bedroom. He's never hidden there before. He didn't want to come out. I had to drag him out and it was obvious that something had scared him. What, I don't know, but all has calmed down again and he's crawled under the bed covers to take his afternoon nap.
Why cats get goofy and do something that makes no sense, once in a while, we'll never know but he sure pulled it on me today.

12:00 AM: THE FIREWORKS STARTED ON GRANDAD BLUFF
Thunder jumped up on the bed and started poking me on the nose. That's how our New Year began.

WINTER IS HERE TODAY!
Thunder looking out over a pretty gloomy neighborhood. We've had just enough snow to cover the housetops and grass but it's too warm to stick anywhere else and there's no ice so I ran my outside errands with no fear of falling down. As long as you can stay out of the wind it's not very cold.

THE KING IN HIS CASTLE
His highness spends most of the day either napping in his own private suite or on the love seat.
Even though he's now a senior citizen, like the rest of us, he's quick to wake up and come running when he sees me preparing his food or bringing a toy out for "play time".

WE GOT OFF ON THE WRONG FOOT THIS MORNING
I wasn't up 5 minutes before I stepped on Thunders tail. Cats seem to consider this a serious offense.

LEFTOVERS
I'm on the last bit of leftover Thanksgiving turkey Rita sent me home with. There wasn't much but I ground up what there was and made turkey salad for sandwiches. It is delicious but not easy to eat.
I had shared some of the turkey with Thunder on Friday and he went CRAZY for it. Not only did he finish it in about 60 seconds, he stood there for another minute, or so, licking the plate. I gave him a touch more on Saturday and he went through the same routine.
Now, of course, he knows the smell. The minute the turkey salad comes out of the refrigerator he's under my feet wanting his share. I keep trying to tell him he won't like it in the salad form with the mayo, onions, green pepper, etc. Unfortunately, you can't really tell a cat anything.
Now, if I want a sandwich, I have to wait until he's having a nap before I dare take it out. And, I have to eat it quick before the smell wakes him up.
As far as he's concerned, Rita is the best "turkey maker" there ever was.

About this time of year, Thunder always wonders what happened to the "birdies".
He spends half the summer sitting in the window and watching them fly by. Up here on the 5th floor we have a non-stop show as the birds nest on the roof and fly down, past our window, to the trees or ground looking for food. Then they fly back up when danger approaches....like an outdoor cat!
By late fall, the birds are gone and the "birdport" closes for the season.
Donnie sent the picture below of the birds, lined up, in their back yard. I showed it to Thunder and told him the birdies will stay in Texas, with Donnie and Linda, and be back up here in the spring.

HAPPY CAT MONTH 2011
Here's a great video with all kinds of tips for cat care. And, listen, carefully, at the end. You have a better chance of avoiding a heart attack if you have a cat. Sorry, dogs. It's only the cats who are "heart friendly".

DAMN CAT!
He poked me awake at 2 A.M. this morning. That's too early, even for me, and I was sleeping so good. I spent a half hour trying to ignore, threaten and push him off but, when he makes up his mind, he'll never give up poking until he gets what he wants.
He had a hearty breakfast and by 3 A.M. he was curled up and sound asleep again. Meanwhile, here I sit, wide awake, with no chance I'll get any more ZZZZ's.

WHAT SHALL I EAT?
4th of July weekend and a hot weekend to go with it. I think I'll head to the kitchen and make some tuna salad. Of course, as soon as I open the can, Thunder will come running from under the bed where he's taking a snooze. He knows his human won't have tuna without sharing some with him.

THUNDER RECOMMENDS PURINA ONE BEYOND
I mentioned Purina One Beyond the other day. I had bought some to see if he liked it. Liked it? He's gone goofy for it. He can't get enough of it.
We will be buying a lot more of that stuff. I'm glad he likes it because every time you buy it Purina gives a portion of the profits to provide food for pets in shelters. Last year they donated 1,200,000 pounds of food to shelters around America. That's my kind of company!
By the way, you can learn more about Purina One beyond by clicking right here PURINA ONE BEYOND

YUMMY!
I found a new dry food for Thunder at the store today. It's Salmon and whole brown rice with accents of cranberries, tomatoes and spinich. That sounds so good I may eat some myself.
