DONNIE DID A BIT OF SIGHTSEEING LAST NIGHT

"After talking to you, I drove about the coulees and discovered the House on the Rock Resort.  A first class lodge and golf course.  Later I found a Spring Green municipal course, almost no one on it, and really cheap, so I played 7 holes this evening.

Given your weather report, I will aim to visit Wilda at noon and then flee early to La Crosse ahead of storms."

AND SPEAKING OF VIROQUA...
Did you know that there was a time when Viroqua had street cars?

SPRING GREEN CALLING

Donnie called from Spring Green late this afternoon.  He decided he had driven long enough today to he packed it in until morning.

He's hoping to visit with Aunt Wilda tomorrow afternoon before coming into La Crosse.

VISITING AUNT WILDA

What a wonderful visit Rita, Roger and I had with Aunt Wilda this afternoon.  She had just had her hair done and looked so much better than the last couple of times we saw her.  As usual, she was a delight and it was fun to see her feeling so good..

There are roads closed for repairs now
that the snow is gone so we had to come back via Grandad Bluff.  This, in turn, forced us into the Alpine Inn for some refreshment before tackling that curvy, downhill road.  It was a fun day!

VIROQUA

Off to Viroqua to see Aunt Wilda this morning.  Going with Rita and Roger.  It's been a long time since we've been up there so I'm looking forward to the trip.

I WONDER IF AUNT WILDA'S EARS WERE RINGING?

We decided we have to figure out a time when we can grab Uncle Bob and take a trip up to Viroqua to see Aunt Wilda this summer.  Of course, that's not easy because she dosen't stay home long enough so we can catch her!

I don't expect to make 95 but, if I do, I hope I can still move around as good as she can.  I'm 23 years younger than she is and I have a hard time moving from the bedroom to the kitchen when I first get up in the morning.

On the other hand, once I get moving, I do pretty well.  I walked 2 1/2 miles on Labor Day.  I know younger folks who have had enough after walking 2 1/2 blocks!

I like what I see in the paper this morning.

Regularly scheduled bus service will begin, in July, for area counties.  I may just take the bus up to Viroqua to visit Aunt Wilda.  Or, maybe, spend an afternoon in Prairie du Chien.  The fares sure sound reasonable.  CLICK HERE TO READ THE STORY IN THE LA CROSSE TRIBUNE.

AUNT WILDA CALLED TODAY

She was at Bob and Lynne's for three weeks and really enjoyed it.  She came home and had her medical check-ups.  Sounded like all was OK.

She was planning on calling Uncle Bob next.

A SURPRISING PHONE CALL

Aunt Wilda called from Viroqua this afternoon which was a surprise.  I thought she was with Bob and Lynne but her doctors decided it would be wise for her to stay close.

She's been so terribly nauseated and they can't figure out what's causing it.  They've done several tests and she's supposed to hear from the clinic this week.

She did have a bit of a holiday, however.  Bob spent a couple of days with her, before Christmas, in Viroqua.

The doctors said she could, maybe, go later after they figure out what's wrong.

AUNT WILDA CALLED THIS AFTERNOON

It was so good to hear from her.  Unfortunately, SHE HAD A BAD FALL about a week ago but the good news is that there were no broken bones.  It did, however swell up and turned black and blue so she's not getting around very good these days.

There's a lady that comes in to help her out and she's, of course, going to Bob and Lynne's for Christmas so she'll be well taken care of.  She'll stay through the New Year.

We talked a good 20 minutes but I got to thinking after I hung up.  If we had cut out all the talk about our aches and pains, the visit wouldn't have lasted 2 minutes.

I used to think old people were funny.  Now that I'm one of them, I don't see anything funny about it at all.

Aunt Wilda called around noon today.

She had tried to call Uncle Bob to see how his surgery went but there was no answer.

She had been sleeping.  She's been so tired, lately, and has been sleeping a lot.  She's also having trouble with her eyes so she can't read as much as before and, I know, she doesn't like that.

A PICTURE FROM RON
"This big boy was just in our back yard for a drink."

Sunday, October 16, 2011

Donnie sent some more photos of recent paintings by his Panama artist friend, George Scribner.  I picked out two that I KNOW Aunt Wilda will love.

Saturday, October 15, 2011

Aunt Wilda called this afternoon.  She had her carpet, in the bedroom, shampooed and it's taking longer to dry than she thought it would.  That's where her computer is so she's out of touch until the carpet is completely dried.

She talked to Uncle Bob.  He said he was walking out the door and fell down.  Fortunately, he wasn't hurt.

THE GOOD OLD RAILROAD DAYS

The oldest surviving structure from the old train days of the Milwaukee Road is in Mineral Point, Wisconsin. Wonder if Aunt Wilda has been there. Click here to read more about the old depot.

I GOT NEWS FROM LYNNE THIS MORNING

"We had a good time with Mom B down with us for three weeks. We went to Daniel and Jon's for a celebration, to Sandy's for another good time with all her family there. Beautiful weather so many got out on the boat. Her son, Chris, is a fantastic boat captain and already has his two young sons tubing.

All Sandy's kids were in a Warrior Dash, which is climbing over walls, jumping over fire, jumping into a mud pond. I camcorded all of them. They are in marathons also.

Now I am editing all the film I took and getting it on dvds. I work hours a day as have 1 1/2 years of camcorder movies to edit onto dvds. I love working on all this but will be nice to get caught up. Then it will be working on photo books.

There won't be much more time working outside on the lawn and flowers so will get more done on other projects."

AUNT WILDA CALLED TODAY

We talked about 20 minutes and she sounded so good. She was with Bob and Lynne for three weeks so she had a long vacation. Now, she says, she's home until Thanksgiving.

VERNON COUNTY FAIR IN FULL SWING

It started yesterday and runs through the weekend.

I'll bet Aunt Wilda has been thinking of "fairs gone by".  This used to be a busy time for her and Uncle Jim.

A NOTE FROM LYNNE

"Keep us posted on Donnie and Linda.  So hope they are safe and their house is spared.  Mom Blair is here with us and we are watching the Weather Channel and I am on the internet getting information.  Scary for all."
