Being in and out of Wisconsin all my life, I FINALLY made it to Madison for the very first time just a few months ago.

I still have not made it to Milwaukee except for a quick landing at the airport after some heavy icing on the wings of a flight, many years ago, between Chicago and La Crosse.  Maybe I should try to make it there before I "fold my wings" for the very last time.  This short video makes MKE look kind of fun!

MINNESOTA ANNIVERSARY TODAY

Minnesota became the 32nd state on May 11, 1858 and was originally settled by a lost tribe of Swedes seeking refuge from the searing heat of Wisconsin 's winters.

See you in Wisconsin!

Travel Wisconsin wants to know:

I'd just like to SEE a little spring and summer.  So far, all I've seen is wet, cold, clouds and wind and I'm getting a little pissed.

We're taking a road trip, tomorrow, with Rita and Roger.

We're on our way to Plover, Wisconsin which is a suburb of Stevens Point.  A little city of, about, 12,000 people.  I know they told me why we're going there but, of course, I can't remember.

One thing about having a non-existing memory is that everything in life is always a complete surprise.

Here's a bit of Wisconsin history.

The territory of Wisconsin was established by Congress, on April 20, in 1836.  After the bill was passed, one congressman got up and said, "Who's hungry for cheese?"

WABEGON BAR

I've got to find out if Carl and Kathy have been to the
Wabegon Bar in Superior.

This is a really interesting story.  The Wabegon is in Wisconsin but you have to go to Minnesota to get in.

That's right.  You can't get a drink at the Wabegon unless you come through the front door and you can't get to the front door unless you cross the state line into Minnesota!!

READ ALL ABOUT IT RIGHT HERE!

THE NUMBERS DON'T LOOK GOOD

Money may be tight where you are but it's tighter here.  The Federal Bureau of Labor Statistics is reporting that Wisconsin lost 12,500 last year.  That's more jobs lost here than any other state in the country.

MADISON MAKES THE NEW YORK TIMES

There's a really good article, in the TRAVEL section of the New York Times, today,  about the writers visit to our very own Madison, Wisconsin and it's great publicity for the city.

WHAT AN AMAZING STORY IN THE LA CROSSE TRIBUNE

After 77 years, a mother and daughter re-united.  And, it takes place in Viroqua and South Dakota.  It's quite a story and you can read it here.  I wonder if Aunt Wilda knows these people?
