Fire inspectors say the July 30 fire in downtown La Crosse started on a second floor outside porch but it's still not known what caused the blaze that destroyed a couple of buildings. The street, in front of the buildings, is still closed while debris from the fire is being removed.
There's an item to this story that brought a tear to my eye. All of the residents who lived in upstairs apartments in the buildings got out safely but several cats turned up missing. But, one, Baby Girl, has reappeared.
While cleaning out the last of the debris in the basement workers found the very scared little kitty who had survived six days under the rubble. The tear came when I looked at the picture. She looks just like Thunder.
