La Crosse is always so green in the summertime with the thousands of trees in the city. It's so sad that it will be a little less green in coming summers because of the EMERALD ASH BORER. The city will start cutting down around 900 trees at Riverside Park, Pettibone Park and Myrick Park to stop the spread of the disease.
Sadly, that's just a start. There are about 5,000 ash trees in the city. They'll all have to come down. In time, they'll be replaced but it will take a long time before the city looks this green again.
BY THE WAY....
The Department of energy says a ton of recycled paper saves up to 31 trees, to say nothing of the 7,000 gallons of water saved along with 4,000 KWh of electricity.
