I was reading, in the La Crosse Tribune, this morning that the last horse was purchased for the La Crosse Fire Department in 1925.
That means that just 15 years before I was born the firefighters, in this town, were still getting to the scene of the fire by REAL HORSEPOWER! And, from there I've lived to see men land on the moon. Life is brief and time is short.

My own personal reminder of the speed of time is that one of the Wright Brothers was still alive when I was born. As you say, we've gone from horse to moon in little more than one lifespan.
