I GOT A NOTE FROM KATHY
"Just listened to 'The Lion Sleeps Tonight' and couldn't wait to tell you that Carl and I had the pleasure of seeing the lead singer, George Staerkel perform at the Arizona Opry along with his wife, Brenda Barleen.
He's still just as talented and what a musician. He played several different instruments and sang all of his songs from the past.".
Here's another Token's song I love and I'll bet he sang this one for Carl and Kathy too.
And, Carl and Kathy will get a kick out of this.
The "Lion Sleeps Tonight" hit the top 40 charts when I was living in Key West and I remember it playing over and over and over again on the juke box at Sloppy Joe's. Whenever I hear that song I think of those warm tropical nights in the Keys.

MOVIE MEMORIES
Look what I found on the internet.
Alas, it's gone now but we spent many hours there when we were kids. Gladys and Lee owned the theater. Lee ran the projectors and Gladys sold the tickets and the popcorn. Once in a while Lee would let me come up into the projection booth and watch him work. That was, almost, like being back stage at Radio City Music Hall when I was a kid.
That narrow window, above the marquee, and a fan, was the only ventilation for the projection booth. No air conditioning in those days and those arc lamps on the old projectors threw out a ton of heat. It was pure torture spending two hours up there, while the show was playing, and I loved every minute of it!
SINCE WE'RE CELEBRATING THE LION TODAY LET'S GET SOME FACTS
The lion is the only cat that is really a social animal. Prides can consist of up to 40 animals. In the wild, the male lion's life span is about 12 years. Females make it to about 15. In a well run zoo, however, they live into their 20's.
Before the human came along, lions lived in North America, Europe and Africa. Now, they're only left in Africa and India and we're doing our best to kill them off too.

IT WAS ON THIS DATE, AUGUST 7, 1974 THAT PHILIPPE PETIT WALKED THE HIGH WIRE BETWEEN THE TWIN TOWERS IN NEW YORK
Who could have dreamed what lay in the future for the twin towers on that day?
CBS: RIGHT UP THERE WITH CNN AND FOX FOR "CLUELESS REPORTING"
So CBS reports on a "sideways tornado" over the Maryland. What's a "sideways tornado" you ask? Well, there's no such thing. It was a hoax sent in to them. But, you're smart enough to ask what a "sideways tornado is. The people at CBS are not. Walter Cronkite must be spinning in his grave.
These people make huge bucks working for these networks and they don't know enough to come in out of the rain....or a "sideways tornado".
When I began my broadcasting career it was a "golden rule" that you got the story verified by three sources before you published or broadcast it. Nowadays, in the frantic ratings game, they could care less about whether it's true or not, fact or fiction. They're not there to inform the pubic...they're there to ENTERTAIN the public and get the big ratings. The result is that their audience is as clueless about what's really going on in the world as they are.

"Penny and I went to Deadwood last Friday and visited three cemeteries. As a young girl, Penny went to the cemetery daily with her grandfather. He said he went because that was where all his friends were.
Mt. Moriah (in Deadwood) sure has changed. No cars allowed anymore and it costs a dollar to visit. Penny won a dollar at the slots so that paid for our cemetery visit.
We walked all the way to the top of the cemetery and then a couple blocks more to where the old town marshal, Seth Bullock's big tombstone is.
I asked why he was buried outside the cemetery and was told he wanted to be buried there so he could see the tower erected in honor of his old friend, President Teddy Roosevelt. Now, the trees have grown so tall you can't see the tower anymore."

WHOSE WATCHING OUR WATER?
The toxic blue green algae in Lake Erie that is causing the water scare in Toledo could cause a scare anywhere.
No state requires testing for this toxin which can cause diarrhea, vomiting, pneumonia, liver inflammation and even death.
Toledo residents are being told not to use the city water. Bottled water is almost impossible to find within a hundred miles of the city and all the restaurants have been closed.
I'm thinking it might be a good idea for every state to start checking for this stuff.
I thought I'd mention this just in case you don't have anything else to worry about today.
