VIKINGS FOREVER
VISITING AUNT WILDA
What a wonderful visit Rita, Roger and I had with Aunt Wilda this afternoon. She had just had her hair done and looked so much better than the last couple of times we saw her. As usual, she was a delight and it was fun to see her feeling so good..

JOE FOSS
If you've ever lived in South Dakota, you'll want to remember that JOE FOSS WAS BORN 99 YEARS AGO TODAY.
Foss was a real South Dakota hero. The Sioux Falls airport code is FSD which stands for "Foss Field".
As a World War II hero, Joe shot down 26 enemy planes during the battle for Guadalcanal. He went on to become the Governor of South Dakota and the first commissioner of the American Football League.

BLOWIN' IN THE WIND
I was one year and one day old, the day one of the country's all-time greatest musical treasures was born in Duluth, Minnesota. And, it was on this day, in 1962, in New York that Bob Dylan introduced this classic to the world.
CLASSIC HITS
I had forgotten all about this song. It's fun to hear it again.

SHIT, I MISSED AGAIN
Here's a joke from Rita and Roger.
CATHOLIC GOLF
A catholic priest and a nun were taking a rare afternoon off to enjoy a round of golf.
The Priest stepped up to the first tee and took a mighty swing. He missed the ball entirely and said, "Shit, I missed"
The good sister told him to watch his language.
On his next swing, Father missed again. "Shit, I missed", he said.
"Father, I'm not going to play with you if you keep swearing." said the nun.
The priest promised to do better and the round continued. On the 4th tee he missed again. His usual comment followed.
Sister is really mad now and says, "Father John, God is going to strike you dead if you keep swearing."
On the next tee he misses again and, again, he says, "Shit, I missed".
A terrible rumble is heard and a gigantic bolt of lightening comes out of the sky and strikes Sister Marie dead in her tracks.
From above comes a booming voice. "Shit, I missed again.

STILL WINTER
Cloudy and windy with some rain this afternoon. That's as good as it will get in La Crosse today. We lucked out and we're missing, what I hope is, the last blast of winter weather for Wisconsin.
THE DONALD
So. The Donald bought himself a new plane. This sure as hell would beat sitting in coach class on a low fare airline with a bag of peanuts in your hand.
SEARS OBIT
It was in 1972 that Sears started building what, then, was to be the worlds tallest building. It's still a landmark building but, alas no longer the tallest and no longer the Sears Building.
And now, the final nail in the coffin. Sears retail store, that has been doing business in Chicago's loop since 1932, has gone out of business and closed this past Sunday.

On April 20, 2012 I posted an item that Rita had planted her flower garden. This is the picture she sent.
Look at all the green in the background. I don't think we'll see that much green on April 20 this year. I'll be happy if there just isn't any snow on the ground.

MID-APRIL COLD
This isn't the first time the 15th of April has felt more like winter than spring. On April 15, 1949 Caledonia and Gays Mills both reported 6 inches of new snow.
LATE 1927 SNOWSTORM
Reading the Bryson book on the summer of 1927 I found out that Detroit was scheduled to host the New York Yankees for a baseball game which had to be cancelled on May 14, 1927 because of heavy snow in Detroit.

Continue on I-90 to the DRESBACH EXIT. Drive east to the HIGHWAY 61 EXIT to La Crescent.

Good Monday Morning! It is snowing in at least a portion of 12 states right now. But only sticking in #Wisconsin. #ColdMidwest
— Bill Karins (@BillKarins) April 14, 2014
DO YOU SEE THIS??? SNOWING IN 12 STATES BUT ONLY STICKING IN WISCONSIN. I'm sorry if I offend anyone but I've lived in places coast to coast and border to border. I've said it before and I'll say it again. The worst damn place to live, in this world, is Wisconsin.
THE NASTIEST 4 LETTER WORD: SNOW
I got up, this morning, flew to the window and sure enough. There it was. SNOW!
The ground is white. The tops of the cars are white. I broke into song. "I'M DREAMING OF A WHITE EASTER".
So, the snow ends this morning but is this the final, final round of winter weather??
HELL, NO!
The forecast, for La Crosse, shows a chance for snow Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
The last I heard, the Easter Bunny has talked Santa Claus, and the reindeer, into bringing the Easter eggs to your house this year. Those guys from the North Pole are better equipped to handle this weather than a bunny is.

MISERABLE PALM SUNDAY WEATHER
Another wave of low pressure is bringing a round of rainfall and thunderstorms into northeast Iowa and southern Wisconsin today. Temperatures won't get out of the 40's in most areas.
Rain will continue into tonight with the cold air changing it to wet snow towards morning although it should melt as it hits the ground.
It will turn miserably cold tonight
with overnight temperatures around 30.
