AUGUST HEAT IS UPON US

FROM THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE:

Steamy...Storms Possible Next Few Days

Dangerous heat returns along with a chance for strong to severe thunderstorms through Tuesday.
The hot and humid conditions will persist across much of the region through Tuesday. Afternoon/early evening heat indices of 100 to 105 degrees are expected for southeast Minnesota, northeast Iowa, and portions of western Wisconsin. Heat Advisories are in effect for this afternoon and early evening in these areas to account for the heat related threats.

All this heat and humidity will prime the atmosphere for showers and thunderstorms. A thunderstorm complex is expected to develop over northern Minnesota tonight, dropping southeast across northern Wisconsin on Tuesday. Meanwhile, a cold front associated with this activity will slide across the region Tuesday afternoon. This front will serve as an additional focus for thunderstorm development. All of the storms over the next few days will have the potential to become strong to severe with damaging winds, large hail, heavy rains and flash flooding the main threats. Currently, Tuesday looks to have the greater severe risk for the local area.
