The South by Southwest (SxSW) music, film and tech event was in Austin last week. This has became a major national gathering--some 250,000 crowd into the city, to hear thousands of musical performances, and view the latest music and film and entertainment/communications technology. Lodging is so hard to come by that one of our friends with a home in the city advertised her spare bedroom on CraigsList, and rented out a mere futon to a Swiss couple for $500 a night, cash in advance! There's an unconfirmed rumor that a Motel 6 in town was getting $700! Many people rent their driveways for parking spaces. Unfortunately, we are too far in the country to offer our guest bedroom, unless the event keeps growing.
