"Replica of fort built by Lewis & Clark to survive the winter of 1804 in North Dakota, Mandan Indian territory. The Mandan were remarkably friendly and civilized, and L&C would not have survived without Indian help and food. For which, the natives were thanked with a measles epidemic (hitherto unknown) that exterminated the society."
