Name doesn't ring a bell? How about "Jan and Dean" ? They were pioneer's of the "surfing" sounds back in the early 60's. They met in Junior High School In Westwood (Los Angeles), the part of the city where Donnie's apartment was located when he lived there.
Jan suffered major brain injuries in a
car accident in 1966 which he lived with until a brain seizure took his life in March of 2004.
Back in happier days, they hit #1 on the charts with "Surf City" in 1963 and #3 with "Little Old Lady from Pasadena" in 1964.
