BANG BANG

A new survey in the NEW YORK TIMES, this morning, shows that gun ownership has dropped from 50% in the 1970's to 35% today.  Another indication of how a small group of loud mouths and a ratings and entertainment driven media and some big contributions to a few politicians campaigns can blow a story totally out of proportion.

Most gun owners have multiple guns, so when the media reports there are 150 million guns in a country of 300 million people, it does not mean that half the people own guns. As this poll suggests, the number of individuls who have guns at home is barely 1/3 of the population, and falling. The number of hunters also is declining. On the other hand, we can probably say that guns among criminals is holding steady. If those trends continue, eventually we will know for sure that "only criminals have guns"...making the criminals much easier to locate.
