MUSIC

Pee Wee King was born in Milwaukee on February 18, 1914.  Probably most famous for his co-writing of the "Tennessee Waltz", he was also #1 on the pop and country charts with his big hit, "Slow Poke" in 1951.

I can still see one of Mother's live-long friends, Vesta, from Armour, in the middle of her living room dancing to "Slow Poke" which she played, over and over, on the phonograph.  She loved that song.  I loved Vesta.  She was one of a kind.  My "Auntie Mame".

In case you've forgotten the tune, here's a video of Pee Wee and the gang.  At the end watch for Minnie Pearl who I had the pleasure of dining with, many years ago, in Sioux Falls.
