The recorded history of wine goes back to, at least, 6,000 BC. The Roman Empire turned wine into a major industry and exported it all over the know world. With the fall of Rome, their wine making died too but the Christians came along, took up the slack, and kept pressing the grapes and we've been poping the corks ever since.
