Today is the feast day of the man who was the inspiration for our modern day Santa Claus.Born in 280 A.D., St. Nicholas came from a wealthy family and he spent his life using his money to help others in need. He was known to leave sacks of gold on the doorsteps of the poor in the middle of the night. He is recognized as a saint by the Catholic and other Christian churches.
